Posts: 14 Feb 17 13 9:30 PM	Tags : None My question is what should be worn at a CP hearing. I was informed by a vet that you should dress almost like a bum. Old shoes, unshaven and no bath. This sounds suspect to me. Anyone has any suggestions on how I should look fo my CP. Thanks for any comments.

Posts: 363 Feb 17 13 10:32 PM	The vet you talked to was likely referring to the hygiene issue mentioned on the lower end of the GAF scale: "occasionally fails to maintain minimal personal hygiene" (11-20) or "persistent inability to maintain minimal personal hygiene" (1-10) If you've been showing up at the VA well dressed in the past to see any mental health staff there's a good chance they've already noted your appearance for the record. So if you show up for the C&P dressed like a bum the examiner is going to get suspicious, take anything you say with big grain of salt, and may even run some extra "response style" tests to see if you're malingering.

Posts: 13 Feb 17 13 11:58 PM	Dress how you normally dress or close to it. I'm gonna wear jeans, a tee-shirt, tennis shoes but no make-up. My normal everyday dress is jeans(to take my son out to bus) and whatever shirt i slept in. Normally when i actually HAVE to leave my house i try to look halfway normal. i even where makeup. its all part of my cover-up. that and i was raised ro dress nice in public. i figure my idea is a compromise between the two. I don't think it's a good idea to go braless and in a night shirt. That's just my guess. Then again don't listen to me, I'm still working on my stressor letter.

Posts: 1973 Feb 18 13 5:21 AM	be yourself you are not an actor trying out for a part you are a veteran trying to get an injury evaluated so you can be "properly" compensated some times the VA does it right the first time around other times they have been known to either lowball an award or hyper-inflate an award if you don't normally shave every day then don't spruce up for the exam if you do clean up for work or because you are still functionally living what most consider a "normal life" any more what is "normal"?

Are you currently being treated for PTSD? Do you have a diagnosis from a psychiatrist vs. a therapist? Doc7316, Don't go all Ted Nugent to your exam. As nmfxstc advised, the examiner will see right through that.

Posts: 242 Feb 21 13 10:49 AM	Well I just got the word, i got 10% for my PTSD and was told I didnt have it.... wow I thought I would of been denied!! Well over time this will go up in percentage... maybe a NOD.

Posts: 1352 Feb 21 13 2:06 PM	PTSD like any other mental disorder can also be awarded at the 10% rating if the individual has medications only that stabilize his/her condition.
