I first wanted to start by wishing all of the veterans and their families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I also want to say thank you to all of the members of VBN who have helped me with my father's disability claim along the way.
We received a letter from the DAV on Saturday 12/22/12 that my father's disability claim had completed rating. I checked Ebenefits today and it looks like everything is complete and my father's claim has been closed out and the official notification packet from the VA is on it's way. My father had already been granted a combined 80% disability rating on 04/01/12 for Parkinson's Disease and the related secondary conditions.
In the current rating the VA awarded my father 30% for depression effective August 31, 2010. An evaluation of a combined 100% is assigned effective 04/23/12. Entitlement to IU is granted effective 03/23/12. I called to thank our DAV representative in Waco and she informed me that the 100% is P/T.
The only thing we are a little disappointed in is that the effective date for I/U was granted 03/23/12 and not back to the original claim date of 10/25/10.
Looks like a nice Christmas present for my mom and dad. It's sad to see my dad's health decline due to the Parkinson's Disease and Emphysema, but at least he is being compensated for his service to our great nation. Now we will finally be able to get him in for the dental work he desperately needs.
Are there any other benefits at 100% I/U P/T that we should be aware of? I know I need to look into the life insurance policy he is eligible for. I also want to check to see if he qualifies for any type of special Adaptive Housing Grant to make their house a little more handicap friendly, especially the bathroom.
God Bless everyone on the VBN and our veterans and their families!
