I recieved the unofficial letter from the DAV today, my rating in the letter adds up to 90% but ebenefits says 70%. Why? Did the VA change my rating after notifing the DAV?

Can you please post what the letter from the DAV has sent you, but leave out all the personal information out. Do NOT include your name, ssn, etc, just the verbage as to what you were found service connected for. This would help us in assisting you in the possible discrepancy.

If that is unofficial, ebenefits won't show the same "unofficial" rating. It will update when the decision is final and "official".

Were you at 70% before?

If so then eBenefits won't be updated till it's official.

Once I was notified of the DAV that I was getting bumped to 70% it took almost two weeks for eBenefits to reflect it.

It's that or you don't understand how VA math works.

Just guessing, you stated you got your later from the DAV listing your percentages and they added up to 90. If this is the case you could add to 90 and be rated 70% by the VA

When you have multiple disabilities the VA does not add, but combine using whats called the combined rating schedule. If you list the individual amounts the DAV said you were awarded and for what we can combine and give you what the VA combined rating will be.

Heres the gist of it.

1) Retrolisthesis at L5-S1. 10%
2) Rediculopathy of left lower extremity. 40%
3) Rediculopathy of right lower extremity. 10%
4) Recurrent depressive disorder. 30%

It's the whole man concept. Imagine your body as a pie.

Johnny the first disability is 50% so he takes half the pie. Billy the next disability is 50% and he gets half of the pie that's left. So he actually only gets 25% of the whole pie. At least the VA math would round him up a bit to 80% in this case.

My ratings are 40%, 20%, 20% 10% and 10%. Most people would think that that is 100%. In VA math it's 69% rounded up to 70% since I don't have any bilateral factor.
