Hello Daily this is where I read that the rating will be the higher of the disability awarded or the number of years a service member has been in the navy. Please see below. I have not found that actual instruction.

Retirement pay computation. For permanent retirement or placement on the TDRL, compensation is based on the higher of two computations: Disability rating times retired pay base; or 2.5 x years of service x retired pay base. Soldiers on the TDRL receive no less than 50% of their retired pay base.

Hello Daily appreciate the correspondance. So If i am correct then If i was awarded 40% disabilty by the board but had been in the navy for 18 years then I would recieve 45% times my base pay. I would also recieve a check from the VA but that amount would be subtracted from my military compensation/retirement amount.

Yes Mike I understand its the high 3 just wanted to be sure about the mulitplication amount times the base pay.

I found a good source in case this question comes up in the future. Its on the DFAS website. So if are awared 30% or higher then your retirement amount will be average of the last 3 years pay times either the disability award or the number of years you served X 2.5%, whichever is higher.
