I went and got my ID card today and on it, it says "Authorized Patronage: EXCHANGE MWR COMMISARY" what is MWR mean and am i able to use the PX?

You are now authorized to have a Morale, Welfare and Recreation. MWR, use of the facilities, purchase tickets at a reduced cost... and the Exchange is the same as the PX.

Congratulations!

But I still use the Super Wal Mart, it is cheaper!

thanks! i am a bit far from the base but moving closer to like 15 minutes away. i was only aware that i was able to shop at the commisary. thanks again!

I find that the Exchange or PX is more expensive on most things than on the local economy.

That said, they do have a price match policy that is not widely publicized. If you are looking for a high price item, price it on the economy and then at the PX. You do not pay sales tax at the PX. I even had one electronics employee let me show him the outside price on my smart phone. He matched the price and I saved the tax. The extended warranty from the same company was lots cheaper at the PX.

So, you just have to be a smart shopper.

MWR does sell discounted tickets for all kinds of events too.

Along with amusement parks like 6 flags and Disney.

You now have essentially the same on base privileges as a military retiree.

You are entitled to stay at military guest houses and resorts world wide plus

military lodges on base in CONUS. You may eat in the dining facilitities on most bases.

Bowling allies, theaters, vehicle maint. facilities, craft shops, etc.

The only thing that is limited for 100% DAV and their dependents is flying space available on DOD aircraft.

No big thing, but a few of our longstanding members were either hospitalized, recuperating, or on an extended vacation or hiatus....we just saw them responding and are welcoming them back...they are well seasoned on issues and great advisers here.

I believe I read something regarding veterans with over 30% disability receiving Commissary/Exchange benefits. I know this was mentioned when they had a DAV conference in DC in this past May. Could you please clarify or maybe I misunderstood.

As of now, the requirement of 100% either schedular or IU remains.

Perhaps what you heard is a propsed amendment via H.R. 1178.

Latest Major Action: 6/24/2011: Referred to House subcommittee. Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on Military Personnel.

I am 100% SC P&T. I have had my ID card less than 1 year.

All it says is "Service Connected"

Should I apply for a new card with "Authorized Patronage: EXCHANGE MWR COMMISARY" ? .

If you are looking at your VA ID, that is all it will say, unless you are Purple Heart.

The ID card folks are discussing is the retired military ID....if you are 100%, just bring your VA award letter to any military installation "Pass and ID" section and they will hook y0u right up....looks similar to your old military ID.

OK I apologize for being dense. So if I did not retire from the military but am now 100% pt&t, I am or am not eligible fothe ID card that gives on base privelages?

Yes LESTG take you paper work with you to a base and tell them you need a ID card for the Commissary and they will direct you. I had to have my award letter, copy of marriage license, DD214 and two proofs of ID one with a picture. Got the card in about 20 minutes for both the wife and I. Some things at the commissary were cheaper than in the store and some higher but being it is 20 miles to the base I don't think we will be going there much. Good luck.
