Hello, I am new to posting on the forum. Thank you for providing a wealth of information relative to claims, benefits, etc. After 42 years of marriage, my husband, a Viet Nam Marine Vet, died last year. Because he died of Agent Orange IHD, I was recently awarded DIC (basic monthly of $1,195 plus an additional monthly allowance of $254). His medical records validated that he suffered from Coronary Artery Disease/Atherosclerosis since 1999.
Although my DIC payments were electronically deposited into my checking account nearly a month ago, I never received an Award Letter. I called the 800 number to inquire about the Award Letter and was advised that a letter was never generated. I was also advised that as of June 6, 2012, Accrued Benefits were pending approval retro to 2006. The accrued benefits are a mystery to me.
I have the following questions:
· How long does it normally take to receive an Award Letter for DIC?
· Could the DIC Award Letter be delayed because of pending approval of Accrued Benefits?
· Could the Accrued Benefits have any correlation with Nehmer? I am unable to determine if my husband filed a claim for IHD.
Thank you for your advice and counsel.
