Posts: 3 Jul 12 12 12:11 PM	Tags : None Well I have been reading on hear and researching many items but my question is this My husband was married to a korean for 16 years of bull crap as she cheated all the time but he stayed as he was concerned for the children we have been married for 17 glorious years but when he retired and thru divorce he was ordered to take out sbp for her to get upon his death my question is where does that leave me? when he retired they wanted me to sign something aprroving this but i refused so what will happen when i lose my husband Edited 1 time by ldorothy54 Jul 12 12 12:22 PM.

Posts: 17432 Jul 13 12 1:10 PM	I'm not an expert on SBP, but I'm reasonably certain that what I'm going to say is fairly accurate. If your husband elected his former spouse as his SBP beneficiary as a result of his divorce court order, then she will be the beneficiary for the SBP. In other words, that was gone before he ever married you and it is irrevocable. As another example, I am retired civil service and part of the court order in the divorce is that I leave my former spouse my civil service death benefit which I am required to pay for each month out of my retired pay. For the record, she gets part of my retired pay while I'm still alive too. If I remarry, my current wife will be out of luck as far as getting the death benefit because that's already been awarded to my ex in the divorce. It belongs to her, not me. Looking on the bright side, if a woman agrees to marry me I know it's for love rather than money. On the other hand maybe that's why none have wanted to marry me. In all seriousness now, I think that all of us who have ever had more than one marriage or married someone who has realize that anyone with a prior marriage brings a certain amount of baggage into a new marriage stemming from the prior marriage.
