Have a question in regards to the award letter from the time you learned about your rating until you received the award letter in hand.
This is mainly directed to those who are retired from the military since I am assuming that being retired may have a inpact on when the letter is mailed out and received.
I am a retired Marine but will always be a Marine who is in receipt of military retirement pay.
I filed for an increase with the VA for PTSD and for my lower back (spinal fusion). I checked Ebenefits and I see that I am now rated at 80% by benefit explorer and the AB3 and AB8 letter suggest that I am being rated IU/ P&T by looking at the pay amount and also seeing the word (Permanent and no future exam).
I found out by my SSA representive this week that I will be having my ALJ hearing on August 13th 2012.
I am just wondering how long did it take you (those in receipt of military retirement pay) when checking Ebenefits until the time you received your award letter.
I would like to submit the award letter to the ALJ before or even at the ALJ hearing depending on when I do receive the letter.
I have read on this site that when you are awarded or have an increase of VA pay and also in receipt of retirement pay then DFAS will have to do an audit which takes time before the audit report is sent to the VA for pay purposes.
I do not know if the audit would have any effect on when one receives their award letter or not so this is why I am asking this question to those who are retired military in case it does have any inpact on when one receives the award letter.
I am not too much worried about the VA back pay at this time but I am more worried about when I will receive the award letter so that I can submit it to the ALJ when I have my hearing next month.
On a side note, when I check ebenefits now it shows that it is back to gathering evidence and that some disabilities that I did not claim have been added to my claim, (TBI, headaches and chronic sleep insomnia). I am assuming that the VA got a copy of my progress notes/discharge notes while I was in the VA PRRP program for the past two months. I do not know if this might or will even slow down on when I may receive that award letter.
Basically, I would like to know how long did it take you to receive your award letter after you learned you have been awarded and found out from your VSO or by checking Ebenefits. Just like to get the award letter submitted to SSA and to the ALJ before I have my ALJ hearing on August 13th.
Sorry for such a long post but I just wanted to make sure that I made myself clear in what I am trying to ask and added things that just might effect me on when the VA actually does mail out the award letter.
Thank You in advance.
OH, HAPPY 4th of JULY everyone!!!!
