Posts: 18 Jul 2 12 6:55 PM	Greetings All, I was approved for this program and have been searching high and low for an online school here in Texas that will work with me. Not too many schools are up to date on this program which makes it hard to discuss options. From my understanding, if the school is approved, we (Vets) fill out the necessary paperwork and wait for VA approval. Once approved, we proceed as one normally would with any course. Correct? We are to pay our tuition with funds from VRAP as well as any other fees. Is this correct? Every school I talk to is about as helpful as roadkill. Thanks for any assistance

Posts: 20 Jul 3 12 4:08 AM	Hi VictorCharlie, I just today received confirmation for direct deposit for educational benefits but no acceptance letter or explanation on what to do next. I assume i was accepted for VRAP but instead they sent direct deposit ok plus VA form 4107 (your rights to appeal our decision)...I think someone at Muskogee got the paper work mixed up and sent me the appeal form with DP instead of the acceptance letter. Do you mind posting the contents of your acceptance letter so I can let my school know the info to send VA the enrollment status. Thanks failauga

Posts: 1 Jul 4 12 8:45 PM	I TOO HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR THE PROGRAM, MY SEARCH FOR A SCHOOL THAT WILL TAKE THE PROGRAM HAS HAD ZERO RESULTS! EITHER THE SCHOOL HAS NEVER HEARD OF THE PROGRAM OR FLAT REFUSED TO ACCEPT IT. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THE ONLY SCHOOLS THAT CAN ACCEPT THE PROGRAM ARE VOCATIONAL, TECHNICAL, OR A TWO YEAR OR LESS COLLEGE . IF YOU TRY A REGULAR FOUR YEAR COLLEGE IT WILL BE MOST LIKELY BE REFUSED BECAUSE OF THE LAW CHANGE. I GUESS THE REAL QUESTION IS IF THEY CAN PUT TOGETHER A VRAP PROGRAM WITH OVER TWO HUNDRED "HIGH DEMAND" JOBS, WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE A LIST OF SCHOOLS THAT WILL ACCEPT THE VRAP PROGRAM!!!! Posts: 20 Jul 5 12 4:18 PM	Ok guys, I got some very useful info from education #888-442-4551...if you want to know which school is VRAP eligible. Go to http://nces.ed.gov/ then go up to school search and scroll down and click on college navigator. On the left side of new window find the state you want to search for schools,.. level of award click certificate & associates. the next level down click 2-year box. Click show results. New window will show all eligible schools from your state that is VA approved for VRAP...you can contact their VA rep, give them a copy of your certificate of eligibility and start the enrollment process. If you may notice, some of these schools are 4 year colleges that has been VA approved for VRAP. These are new changes that VA made just recently in June to give us more variety of choices. She stated that VRAP is changing daily. I am frustrated also with the school choice. I found one that met the criteria of VRAP but they never heard of the program. Posts: 17 Jul 9 12 1:10 PM	For the VRAP program you will need to check in with your VA certifying official to get all the required paperwork from them. There is more to the process then just submitting your application through Ebenefits. You will need to take assesments(if needed),see a counselor to get a VA Educational plan done and it has to be towards one of the High Demand jobs listed by the VA and the Department of Labor. You will then have to enroll into classes at a full-time rate(12 units) and get certified to the VA by the Cert official. That is how the VA will know you are actually enrolled in classes.

The VA really screwed many schools as they sent zero info about how to help veterans planning to use the program. All schools with veterans attending should in some shape or form have a school VA school official. So call the school you plan on attending and check.

Posts: 24 Jul 10 12 11:46 PM	You guys are pitiful. You're making this ridiculously harder than it actually is. Schools don't accept nor deny this program. VRAP pays YOU...the approved veteran. YOU pay the school from this program. The schools don't care where the money comes from as long as you pay their tuition and fees. VRAP also does not qualify 4 year institutions. It only allows technical colleges and at most, toward an associates degree. It also allows other community colleges (again, AA degrees), vocational programs and some job training programs...maybe others I've missed. If you're on here then you have the internet and there's a ton of factual information regarding VRAP. Also, if you still have questions, go to your local DOL office and ask for the Veterans Representative. Waiting is the WORST thing you can do. This is only a 12 month program and when the first 45K (?) people are approved, the next batch of approvals won't begin again until October. Typically, technical schools begin classes in mid to late August. Good luck but c'mon guys, this isn't as difficult as you seem to be making it. Nobody is going to do this for you.

That has nothing to do with the program or how it's actually administered. There is a list of schools that this program allows. More power to you if you can get the funding and still attend a school not on the list, but why try to make the school fit the program when there's already a list and criteria for the allowed schools? If the program does change in the future and allows me to transfer back to the university I was attending prior to VRAP, then I'll gladly accept that and transfer...again. In the meantime, I found out about the program, learned (through the VA and DOL) how it works and I'm working within those parameters. I attended a university for 4 years and was broke as broke gets. This $ will be a Godsend and I won't know how to act, taking classes full time and not having to worry about how I'm going to eat for the day.

I just do not understand their logic on how this was set up. There are many I am sure who are somewhat at a distance disadvantaged, and having other choices would also be a God send to them, including myself. Please don't take my opinion and make it personal. Posts: 17 Jul 13 12 5:31 PM	Borderbash- Some veterans need help,especially those with no computer skills. The VRAP program has a list of jobs but making sure they fit into a certificate or AA program can be difficult if the school doesn't offer the program. I know I work at a community college helping veterans. Some of the programs may have classes that fall into the categories listed on the high demand jobs per the VA AND DOL. So you have to do some searching to make sure the counsleor lists these courses on an ed plan. So it is a lot more difficult than you think. Edited 1 time by Dsamoan1 Jul 15 12 2:23 AM.

The school MUST be appoved for VRAP or YOU don't get paid. Of course the school does not care where the money comes from, but if it's not approved for the program, then the only place the money would be coming from is your pocket. As noted there is more to it than just getting approved. A course selection form must be submitted by the school's VA rep before you get paid. Posts: 15 Jul 17 12 9:53 PM	I spoke with UCSD (unity. of Cal, san deigo ), they have a 24 credit OSHA Trainer (510) for 24 credits or certificate, they are VA approved for the Bills but not for VRAP. Go figure

Posts: 17 Jul 18 12 1:04 PM	The issue with UC San Deigo although they offer a certificate program they are still a 4 year university and you cant use VRAP there. Look into your local community college and apply for VRAP there. While there apply for financial aid and the BOGW. In California, the BOGW will cover your tuition and fees allowing you full acess to the money from the VRAP program. You will still have to buy books but you will save on having to pay for the tuition . Bob- You know I think that the school you listed is a for profit school,that what it looks like to me. I know the VA is cracking down on these types of schools due to their mistreatment of veterans and their money. To be honest the degrees or certifcate arent worth more than the paper they use for toilet paper. I have seen many veterans having to come back to a community college and have to restart because the classes they took at the for profit school didnt mean anything.
