Hi,
My husband retired after 26 years Air Force 1 Jan 2011. Finally,
got his 80% rating March 2012 and first VA check April 1st 2012. I had read different stories on Retro, some got it quick others STILL waiting. We are in the waiting line. Does anyone know the time frame for the Albuquerque RO? Below is the response from IRIS. Looks like once the VA recieves the AEW it go's to the bottom of the pile .... that just isnt right!
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE!!
Dear Mr. XXXXX,:
This is in response to your inquiry to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) dated May 16, 2012.
We are grateful for your many years of service to our country in the U.S. Air Force.
We apologize for the delay in providing a reply to your inquiry. We strive to respond to all inquiries within five business days; however, we have experienced an increase in the volume of inquiries received, which are being responded to in the order of receipt.
The program to which you refer is called Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP).
Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) handles the processing of these cases, which are being worked in the order of oldest to newest. Currently, DFAS is reviewing retirees’ records to identify records with possible payments due. When they identify a record that meets the criteria for possible payment, they issue an Audit Error Worksheet (AEW) to VA, who will then review the AEW and the Veterans claims folder to determine if payment is due. If payment is due, VA will send the payment and a letter with the breakdown of payment. If the Veteran is not due a payment, VA will issue a notice explaining why the Veteran is not entitled. The Veteran does not have to submit anything for this process.
VA received notice and an AEW from DFAS on March 20, 2012. (The retroactive amounts provided in the AEW cover the time frame from February 2011 through February 2012.) Currently, we do not have a specific time in which your case will be completed and payment will be made, as there are many cases currently in process. As each Veteran’s case is as important as the next, they are generally processed in the order of receipt. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Once your payment is processed it will be directly deposited to your checking account, as are your VA disability compensation payments.
It is our privilege to assist you today, XX, XXXXX
Thank you for contacting us. If you have questions or need additional help with the information in our reply, please respond to this message or see our other contact information below.
