Posts: 5 Jul 3 12 8:14 AM	Thanks Guys for the information , just got blood work back after taking finasteride for six months psa went from 4.8 to 2 and biopsy was neg six mth ago, will continue with meds for other six mths

Posts: 3995 Jul 3 12 9:24 AM	kevin mooney Not a put down, but, you use the term Agent Orange Registry. That registry is a waste of time. You sign up, they "may" blood test and they record a bunch of info from you. It DOES NOT produce a claim for you or verify anything for you to do a claim.

He subsequently received treatment for PC. He filed a claim for disability benefits was given an AO award. PC is in remission. No harm in having registry exam if no AO disease is detected.

All the ones I know of the maximum they ever got was a blood test..I never even got that..Mine was a meeting with a Physician Assistant and questions and forms. You even say that the vet you know had to fill out a claim, the registry DOES NOT do claims

You seem to be confused about how claims are filed. After the Vet was diagnosed with PC he was put into the VA medical system and the VA opened his claim for AO. Posts: 5 Jul 9 12 12:25 AM	I'm new to this VA stuff (note first post), but I have to chime in here. I went to my AO registration meeting. Nurse ask if she could stick her finger up my butt. Sure.. Go for it. She tells me it is a bit enlarged and firm. (prostate). Asked what my PSA's were. Never had one I tell her. She sends a blood sample in. Comes back a 10.07. I get a biopsy scheduled a couple weeks later. What do you know... I have prostate cancer. I will find out more this week.... Daman I feel that that nurse may have saved my life. I would not minimize the usefulness of the AO registry so quickly. Shoknaw

But the one I had this year was different not only did complete blood work to include Hep C but also urine and x-rays. About a month latter received a letter telling me what to follow up on with my PCP. I for one thank God another vet pushed me to go get one since I was one of those who after the 1980 experience said F- the VA.

Posts: 3995 Jul 9 12 9:19 AM	OK I must admit the registration for me was back in the 80s, so maybe they NOW do a good check up, so I take back what I said. However, INTRUDER, I am well aware how a claim is filed, are you? The VA does not file a claim on behalf of a veteran, a veteran must file the claim. Yes the VA will do the medical portion for the vet but the claim MUST be filed by the veteran. That is why under the latest round of NEHMER claims some were processed as INFERED. Of course I will take all this back IF someone can show me the new law or regulation that allows the VA to file a Compensation Claim for a Vet.

Posts: 2 Jul 18 12 5:45 PM	I saw an agent orange topic and hoped it would be worth while to ask a few questions. My dad is now 62 and was exposed to agent orange in 1969 and 71, he is now suffering from extreme skin conditions his trade is a mechanic and thats all hes ever done but recently (past 2- 3 years) his hands started to crack open and he has a terribly itchy rash from head to toe that are much worse in heat. Hes been to the va and seen at least 40 different dermatologists and specialists. The drs gave him steroids and anti itch cream that helped for a day or 2 but now nothing works. Everytime my dad asks if its related to AO they avoid the question and offer him no help. He is unable to work anymore due to this condition but the VA has denied his claim for disability... If ANYONE can help id be soo appriciative. Its killing me to see my dad in so much pain.

Posts: 3995 Jul 18 12 8:26 PM	daugetherofaVET There is nothing "presumptive" regarding the skin disorder you mention. However, was your dad ever treated for Jungle Rot while in the Military? Does he have that mentioned in his Medical Service Records? That may be an avenue for him to travel.........

Posts: 2 Jul 18 12 9:28 PM	He never had jungle rot, and he has had other vets tell him they have the same issue and that an outside dr said the problem was AO my dad just cant afford that as far as i know there is no definative test for AO but they have eiminated EVERY other option
