Posts: 985 Jun 28 12 10:19 PM	I was talking to a friend tonight about her son joining the service. I never knew this but she told me she was married to a Vietnam veteran who suddenly died of a heart aneurysm in 1989. It sounded like they were not even aware he had a problem prior to his death. I did not say anything to her but I thought she may have a DIC claim going back to 1989 if the death certificate said "heart aneurysm" (related to IHD). I didn't mention it because I didn't want to get her hopes up. I'm sure she is not even aware of what DIC is. She had a daughter by the Vietnam vet and the daughter has completed college. My friend remarried in 2000. Thoughts? Bo 11B40 RVN 69-70, 199th Light Infantry Brigade 90% SC, 100% IU P&T, SSDI I was "awarded" the Combat Infantryman Badge, 3 Bronze Stars w/"V" Device, Purple Heart, Air Medal, 3 ARCOMS w/"V" device-- ALL OF WHICH MEAN VERY LITTLE TO ME. I think I "earned" the Love, Loyalty and Respect of my brothers in combat--WHICH MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME. She would also have to be over 58 when she remarried. The daughter however may be able to make a chap 35 claim. Posts: 3995 Jun 29 12 9:18 AM	Her biggest problem is getting the CONNECTION between the IHD causing/aggravating the anueyrism...IHD is basically blockage while the Anueyrism is basically a weekness that blows out..

She did remarry in 2000 and she was not 58 years old. I did find that certain heart aneurysms are listed und Ischemic Heart Disease in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD9 Codes). At this point all I know is that she said he died suddenly of a heart aneurysm in 1989. I wonder if she might be eligible for retro DIC from 1989 until she remarried in 2000 assuming the death certificate qualified as agent orange related? As I said, I haven't mentioned anything to her at this point and I feel pretty confident she knows nothing about DIC. Thanks Daman. I agree that it is a remote chance. I did reply to Lou that I found several types of heart aneurysms listed under the ICD 9 Codes that are attributable to IHD. Given that it might be a possibility. She did remarry before age 58 so it may be moot either way. If he had made a claim for IHD then DIC could possibly be back dated, otherwise it is date of claim. If it is date of claim then there is no possibility. I feel sure he did not file a claim. They weren't even aware he had a problem. He just basically dropped dead of a heart aneurysm according to her. I'm sure she did not file a claim for DIC at the time. I wasn't aware DIC would not be automatically retro to date of death or that it was date dependent like other claims. Thanks for your help.
