Posts: 89 Jun 27 12 6:29 AM	Please look at the black ribbons at the top of the forum, they mean that member is no longer with us. As far as owning your own home-based business, it would be looked at as self-employment. You would be limited to earning under $2,000 per month, which would be divided between you and your wife - to keep you under the monthly SGA amount. It should end up being a quick way to get yourself reviewed, in my opinion. Hope this helps...

If you can run a home based business, then you are NOT disabled by Social Security Standards. Income is NOT the only criteria used to determine if you are still disabled. They can also factor in the amount of time you spend on this business, and determine you are engaging in substantial gainful activity even if your income remains below the cut off. You're either capable of work or not. Which is it? Believe this: Social Security and VA will find out if you start a business! You paid a price, you deserve to be compensated. That is a felony, and they do indeed prosecute people for this kind of behavior. If you are disabled to the point that you qualify for SSDI, then you can not work at ANY OCCUPATION. To attempt to work (and put the earnings under your spouses name) is nothing but fraud. Posts: 6036 Jul 1 12 8:44 AM	If you build up a home based business, you will likely be making over $1,000 a month fairly quickly. You also demonstrate that you are capable of working. SGA is not ONLY based on income. They also take into account the hours you work, etc., etc. They are on to all of the scams that people pull to bring in income and stay on SSDI. I have seen people cut off when they earned (on paper) significantly less than SGA monetary amounts, but were putting in more than 40 hours a week. There are ways to artificially keep your "earnings" down, and Social Security will figure it out sooner or later. I have also seen people prosecuted when they were doing all of the work, but put the "earnings" under their spouses social security number. Retail independant contractor (IC)? Not that others are misleading you, but without knowing exactly "your" revenue stream, I can't specifically answer your questions. Now I will take a swing at it: IC will only affect your SSDI depending on the amount you make, meaning when you prepare your taxes your SSDI will be penalized (using lay terms); it will NOT hurt your receiving SSDI, period. If you are generating money from say, AMAZON or GOOGLE, the same rule applies. Posts: 52 Jul 5 12 6:07 AM	From what I have read there is a process in which a person can notify SS to let them know you are going to try to work This is what I intend. I have applied for SSDI and I have all my stuff in for VA to do their thing, but I would like to go to school and see if I can learn to do something that I can handle both mentally and physically. At that point I will be all over the trial work opportuniy thing. I would much rather work than deal with this crap VA and SSDI forever. I don't know, maybe I'm dreaming but I keep thinking that if I had something even somewhat important to do tht I would feel better. Search the SS website for "trial work period." I think it would be easier to notify them when you should instead of trying to pull something over on them. That way it may be there for you when it doesn't work out and you need to go back on it.
