Posts: 2782 Jun 25 12 6:50 PM	Is anyone taking Xgeva or Prolia along with the Lupron. The reason that I ask is my local GU Dr. has me on the two meds Lupron and Prolia. When I went to the big house, MDAnderson in Houston, they sort of thumb their noses at Prolia and warned of hypocalcium and jaw necrosis. They did not say to not take but warned about it. They suggested Casodex to go along with the Lupron. Then possible radiation if PSA is 0.5 or less. So I have two plans. I think alot of MDAnderson so I am taking Lupron and Casodex. The Prolia the local Dr.'s idea. Next week, I see a third GU Dr. to try and straighten it all out. I know the old saying that to many cooks spoil the broth. Just wondering if anyone is on Prolia long term and if they have had any problems with it?

Posts: 2 Jun 25 12 9:42 PM	I took my first Xgeva injection about 2 weeks ago. I've been on Lupron for a little over 2 months following robotic prostate surgery on 2/14/12. The Lupron brought my PSA down from a high of 7.3 following surgery to <0.1 in that time frame. The Xgeva is for the prostate cancer that spread to my bones as was indicated on an earlier PET Scan. The Xgeva is injected just under the skin in the stomach area and isn't painful. Side affects are weight gain and tiredness. Along with the Xgeva the doctor prescribed 1200mg Calcium & 1000mg Vitamin D twice daily to help keep my bones healthy. I'll be taking an Xgeva injection every 30 days for possibly years. In September they're going to implant a Lupron capsule called Vantas in my arm. This will last one year and will be replaced yearly until my prostate cancer is eradicated both in my bones and in the pelvic area where it spread prior to surgery.

Posts: 2782 Jun 26 12 8:25 AM	QDog, Thank you for your response on Xgeva. I like the idea of Vantas. I did not know that. I appreciate the Calcium and Vit.D advise. Now to the part I question. I was under the understanding that once the Cancer had spread out of the prostate it was to late for a robotic prostate surgery. Are you saying the Xgeva and Lupron will eradicate bone spread? I sure hope so. Thanks again

Posts: 2 Jun 28 12 11:34 AM	DEROS1969, The spread of the prostate cancer to the seminal vessels was discovered after the robotic surgery. The doctor put me on Lupron and it lowered my PSA to <0.1. The prostate cancer in the bones was discovered by a PET Scan and the doctor put me on Xgeva. Hopefully the Xgeva will attack the prostate cancer in the bones, we'll see by having another PET Scan this fall. Best wishes

Posts: 2782 Jun 28 12 6:59 PM	Thanks and I wish you well. I am sort of on the same course. Mine spread to a lymph node instead of seminal vessels and maybe bone. Got a repeat bone scan in Oct.. If PSA is 0.5 or less they radiation all those suckers. The PSA is not down then it is Lupron and prolia for life. I like my prolia better than your Xgeva. They are is the same class of drug and do the same thing. The Prolia is every 6months and Xgeva every month. The VA is giving the fee basis people a little trouble about Prolia. I think Prolia is expensive. My Drs. knew before they considered Robitic surgery by doing a abdominal CT with contrast and a bone scan. Once they saw the the horses where out of the barn so to speak, it was to late to close the door.
