I know most may not want to talk about it, but I have been diagnose with ptsd from it, and yes i'am a male which makes it kinda hard to express my feelings since I was rapped twice while serving (86-91 US Army)

But if you need info for your claim, everything is up for discussion. You are not alone with being sexually assaulted. If there is anything we can answer, just ask away.

Posts: 153 Jun 19 12 9:14 PM	Thanks for responding, perhaps no else did is because they might think im a homosexual, but im not. I also think that most vets here don't see my assault being service connected because I never saw action and I even told my therapist that I don't like a solider because of it. I don't have any visable wounds, but I still hurt and feel like crap all the time.

Posts: 252 Jun 19 12 9:45 PM	Just a sensitive subject... I think thats why everyone is scared to write anything. I'm sure this is service connected because you were assualted while serving in the Army. Also it was my understanding by Army definition a male cannot be raped only sodomized. At least that is what they told us at sexual assualt courses and training that was mandatory. I know its not a big difference but the punishment is serverly different. I think male on male sodomy was 10 years maximum and male on female rape could warrant the death penalty. I didnt understand it but thats what the regs where. Go figure. I'm not sure if I can help you out much other than you should be getting counseling as much as possible. I'm sure thats about the only thing that helps with kind of situations. Also find some kind of hobby to keep yourself occupied and give your mind some where else to go. Well good luck with your recovery and I hope all works out. They don't want to admit that this happens, and it happens both in and outside the military, to both men and women. There is also a tendency, on the part of some people, to think that people are making this up in order to get a free ride. And a tiny minority tend to believe that people this happens to "deserve it". Those atre among the reasons why you make not get much in the way of responses. But, if you have specific questions about disability, how to file a claim, etc. please do ask them. I would also strongly recommend that you call the 800 number that is placed in every restroom in every VA Hospital in the country, asking if you were the victim of sexual assault in the military. It is posted on every stall door, and on the wall. Posts: 167 Jun 20 12 7:24 AM	You should take old medic's advice. He is usually spot on with his advice. Also, make sure you seek treatment. I did not for many years and I payed a high price. That high price could have been avoided if I would have sought help. There are people in VA medical care that want to help you. Please seek them out.

PTSD is PTSD whether the incident is due to sexual trauma, combat, accident, non-sexual assault, natural disasters, etc. While your triggers may be different the symptoms are the same. You also do not need to give specific details regarding your stressors to ask questions or be involved with others here on VBN. It is unfortunate, but even here you will come across some idiots who think PTSD can only come from combat & so a bit of a tough skin may be needed at times, but you'll also see that those idiots either learn that's not true or that they become non-members, usually against their will! I hope that you have already filed a claim for this or that you will be doing so in the near future. Take care & God bless!

If anyone on this site gives you a single ounce of crap for being a victim of MST or accuses you of being gay, I will be very surprised. I have yet to read anything of the sort. I'm sure there are folks here who possess certain negative attitudes and beliefs towards this subject as well as homosexuality, but I think everyone here does a great job of putting their personal beliefs aside in order to provide support and render advise. This site is all about vets helping vets. Everything else is irrelevant. I was an MP in the Army and, unfortunately, was the first responder on the scene of countless rapes and sexual assaults, wherein the victims were both men and women (mainly women). I've seen the permanent damage these sort of incidents cause. I feel for you, buddy, and hope that you are receiving treatment. If not, I pray that you seek it out soon. I work for the VA processing claims for service connection (as well as other stuff) and would be more than happy to help you out with anything. Just hit me up with a message. Good luck.
