Microsoft just announced the "Surface" which is aimed to compete with Apples iPad and others. I've seen the iPad and have to say I prefer the look and features of the "Surface" more so than that of the iPad. I may just have to buy one. Highlights include weighing only 1.5lbs, a detachable keyboard that is super thin, USB ports, HD wide screen display, two cameras, and a sturdy shock resistant body. That background in the picture is what Windows 8 desktop will look like. Not the standard small icons we have now. Have a look...

You can plug a USB into it, sounds better than an Ifad.

I'm guessing around $500.00. It comes in two flavors. Windows 8 and RT. The Windows 8 version is a bit wider and heavier. That spongy keyboard is cool and I love that they put a decent sized keyboard with it. It's not a gaming machine, but pictures, video, email, internet, cameras, and it's small size would make for a nice travelling companion. I'm gonna have a look when they become available and make a decision then.

Rumor now- between $500 - $800.

It will have to be competitive. As a late entry there will need to be an incentive for people to consider buying this.

Microsofts will have to challenge Apple's bestselling iPad with a device that can run standard applications such as its own Office programs and Photoshop.

This one caught my attention. I just hope that Windows 8 comes with the starter editions of Word and Excel like Windows 7 did.

I just saw a CNET review on TV. That puppy is pretty nifty. Gotta check it out a little more as I’m not into all the new tech. Some of the features (touch screen) are foreign to me. I wonder which VBNr will be the first to pull the trigger and give us a personal review. I usually don’t buy anything until it’s tried and true but that always keeps me behind the curve. I guess I’ll wait it out until Paul gives us the skinny, lol.

There's the leading edge, and there's the "bleeding" edge.

New tech - my preference is to wait until the first rev is released. It usually doesn't take that long.

Unless you prefer to help the company work out the bugs.

If I'm behind the curve, well, that might not be such a bad thing.
