Posts: 23 May 3 12 11:08 AM	Tags : None VSO says VA has notified them of 10% rating on my heart by pass. VSO says VA will notify me that they want a VA Dr. to test my heart. This seems low to me. I thought 30% was automatic? I have other issues pending. Any suggestions? Thanks. Army: Artillery RSVN 70-71

Then they have to reasses the amount of heart damage. 10% is basic for continuous meds only. Nothing is automatic it depends on your mets and LVEF. We often find that a CABG with no history of prior heart attacks to be considered a fix thus 10% on the other hand if the coronary arteries have been blocked for a long time there can be significant heart damage but never had an actual MI. Think of it like your house, if the plumbing breaks in your house you have significant damage but if the plumber minds a major problem before it breaks then you have a fix. By the way you need to apply for the 3 months at 100%, make the claim as any other and submit your surgical records and sometimes there can be secondaries down the road like a sternum that doesn't heal correctly, a scar that hurts or problem that occurred where they took the graft, like pain Lou SSG Santa Fe NM 4/21 11LIB Americal 1/69-8/70 50% PTSD 60% IHD 100% IU P&T

I think it is one month.Lou F knows that for sure amke sure you surgeon notes it. I was ready to go to work in three days after, but the body just would not let me. Posts: 23 May 3 12 1:16 PM	Thanks. Had bypass 11.2008. Did not file claim until 08.2011. Have no idea what EF/LVEF/CP means. Guess I have alot to learn. Stayed away from all things military from 1971 to 2011. Did not join any VFW, etc. Helped me keep sane, and get along.

C&P means compensation and pension exam, LVEF is your left ventricle ejection fraction, EF same thing, it determines how efficient your heart his and how much damage your heart has, this is how the VA determines the compensation level. At present thenVA has just accepted the fact you have IHD and that is the minimum % until they have further proof of your disability level. If your cardiologist had all your info up to date and you a recent stress test or echocardiogram, he can fill out a form to avoid the C&P and hopefully get your claim done faster. Your VSO should know about DBQ's and if he doesn't get rid of him because he knows nothing. Remember to file for that temporary recovery 100%, apparently another screwup of his. Here is the link to the VA DBQ's http://benefits.va.gov/TR...RMATION/disabilityexams/ It will give you all the info you need, on the left about halfway down the page are links to the actual form, I think in the link for forms by number, IHD is the very first one, give it to your cardiologist to fill out, to be safe have him put his federal drug license number on it and mail it with your claim for 100% temporary. One more thing, it is very common to have depression after a CABG and it can be long term, you can also file for depression as secondary to a CABG and IHD. Posts: 3985 May 3 12 5:17 PM	LouF Am I reading the post wrong?? He says he had by-pass in 2008 but did not file a claim until 2011. He says he stayed away from all things Military (I take that as VA also) from 71 thru 2011. That be the case his surgery and temp rate for the surgery will NOT count because he did not have a claim on file back to those dates. He will only get what happens from 8-2011 to present.

Posts: 3386 May 3 12 8:19 PM	eXACTLY WHAT i HAVE BEEN PISSED OFF ABOUT. If they lost the dr report back in 2006, and never researched anything I think that my appeal may have merit. If they cant find the papers for coronary disease backto 2006 when I first went for aid and assaistance, then maybe they can find the AICD papers which they are reading for six months.Appeal and three other claim are on file. Hope I live to see the day.. Thanks Bill

Posts: 23 May 7 12 9:07 AM	Heart Dr says 55% on LVEF: No mets; in its place he says he did a Bruce protocol: 7.5min, HR 160. Does this tell you enough about what my % should be? VSO say they have been notified at 10% (heart only), no decisions on other issues. I have received no notification. VSO says VA wants will want me to meet with their Dr on heart issue. No time frame given. Thanks for all your help.

Paper work says calculation was awarded for one year prior to filing claim, if I am reading it correctly. Maybe when the AO on the heart was changed by the VA?. Have two VA test schedule in June 2012, and two for July 2012.

Posts: 23 Jun 20 12 5:08 PM	Had my VA hearing and heart tests last week. On the heart, all they did was an echocardiogram. They did not put me on the treadmill. Can they calculate the Mets from the echo? Hearing, examiner said I qualified for hearing aids in both ears. Percentage he did not know. Does this tell anyone anything? Also, my internist diagnosed me as a diabetic this week and put me on appropiate meds. Should I file a claim on this, or is this included with my heart? I have two appts at VA in July for PTSD and one other I can not remember. Any help is appreciated.

Posts: 12935 Jun 20 12 5:36 PM 10,000 plus post...	Doug, the echo will only give you a LVEF. The LVEF is only used in rating if it is 50 or less, the stress being contradicted. It is not used when it is 51 or higher. In your case they have to use mets but as you said before the test you are getting doesn't calculate mets. Thus you may be getting screwed with 10% and it might be 30%. You need to demand a stress test Yes make a claim for DMII, it is also AO presumptive. Usually it is rated at 20% but there are many secondary issues which you need to research and remember for later claims.
