Hi all,

I wanted to see if anyone could help me out. My claim had been in the "Preparation for Decision" phase since Jan. 13, 2012, and just today, it changed back to "Claim Received." Does this mean I have to start all over again with the timeline?!? I thought I'd be getting a decision within the next month or so!

Here's my timeline so far:

BDD Claim submitted: 3/7/2011

C&P Appts: 5/4/2011

ETS: 8/31/2011

Claim sent to VA: 9/1/2011

Preparation for Decision: 1/13/2012

back to Claim Received: 5/1/2012

Help!!

Also, my claim was being processed at Winston-Salem, and now it is displaying St. Petersburg....???

The good news is you claim is out of Winston. The bad news your still a few months away from hearing anything. You should not expect to see anything before the 1 year mark 9-1 your date. Claims are taking from 18 to 24 months to complete now. Alot will depend as well on the number of contentions you filed as well. If it was a few less than 5 it could be at the low end of the average if its like one claim I saw yesterday 39 contentions they may be finished by 2040. (thats humor) but not much out of the 39 I do expect this service member will be fighting this for years instead of months.

obiegirl05, That same thing happend to me. My claim was at Winston Salem, but transferred to St. Pete on 30 Mar 12. My Timeline is below: BDD Claim submitted: 4/16/2011 Completed C&Ps: 29 Jul 11 Retired: 31 Jul 11 Prep for Dec: 17 Aug 11 Review of evidence: 28 Mar 12 Claim received at St Pete: 30 Mar 12 Prep for notification: 10 Apr 12 (AB8 showed up) Back to gathering of evidence: 11 Apr 12 My claim had 1 deferred item. It went super fast once it made it out of the black hole that is Winston Salem. Hopefully yours will move fast now that it's at St. Pete. Good luck.

Thanks so much for both of your replies. One thing I didn't notice before when I made my post was that ebenefits says "Regulatory or Procedural Review" for my claim. Anyone know much about that?

Hey Becky,

It appears that the term "Regulatory or Procedural Review" is given to a claim when it is "farmed out," like your was. The same thing happened to me. I have no idea why they do it that way, as it is the same claim. It may be some tracking thing for the system. It seems like they could just say something like "Moved to XXX VARO to be worked."

When I asked my VSO about the term he said it was just another way to confuse us. Shrug

I think he is right.

At least someone is looking at your claim.

Hi, Joness31, I was wondering how many contentions you had; My retirement date was the same as your and mine was transferred to St Petersburg on the same day as yours; mine is still sitting in claim recieved status

My claim was submitted 09-2010. Your probably 6 months behind me, I just went to Pending decision approval. It will go "backwards" sometimes,, but that doesn't mean your claim is going "backwards", it just means they need to gather more evidence and you at at a different stage in the process.

My was transferred to St. Petesburg on 31 Mar 12. It went into pending decision approval 14 May 12. Went to pending notification on 16 May 12 and closed on 18 May 12.

Dont feel bad, my claim has been at the Winston Salem regional office since May 27, 2010. They completed the claim partially but deferred and left pending several other items

My claim has done the same thing, my claim started July 30,2012 at the Winston Salem office and went to preparation for decision in January of 2012 and then went back to claim received on February 22, 2013. I called the VA office and she told me that a partial decision was made and I should receive that decision in the mail shortly, but due to the VA wanting me to have another examination done they couldn't complete my whole claim so I will receive a partial decision and then after I get the examination done it can take up too 9 months to complete the whole claim...hope this helps

I guess I should have updated a little sooner. My claim was approved 14 Aug 2012 ( one year from submission) and I received my first monthly payment the same month. However, it's now been 5 months and I'm still waiting for the retro payment. DFAS did their audit portion and sent it back to VA on 19 Sept 12. I called VA they said it would take 45 days to receive the payment. After the 45 days I again called the VA, now they are saying it could be anywhere from 9-14 months. It would be nice if they paid the same interest that they would charge me if I was over paid and had to return money to them but took a year to do it.

I am a retiree and my VARO is Roanoke. DFAS does their audits quickly and pays whatever is due to the service member quickly. My last retro pay (I have had two) took 15 months to be paid to me and that is ONLY because I called the Office of Communication and Case Management in Washington D.C. Once they called, my retro claim was opened and close on the same date and my money deposited within 5 days. Retro's are taking aloooooonnnnnnggggg time for retirees.
