is anyone receiving compensation for chronic kidney diseasse stage 3? my husband was diagnosed about 5 months ago. We have not heard anything yet.

hello! My husband also applied for benefits for chronic kidney disease due to his diabetes back in November 2010! He was rated 100% for IHD & 20% for diabetes in 11/2011 but still waiting on the kidney disease.

My husband is now on a transplant list for a kidney but is not on dyalsis yet. We emailed the VA last week so hope to hear somethng soon. Im still confused on whether he will get any additional benefit for the kidney disease since he is already 100%.

If you hear something, please advise!

i'm also on dialysis for three years now , i get SMC S roughly $350.00 more added to my 100% for DM II ,PTSD and PN , with IHD also and retinopathy !!!

I think Stage 3 is when they begin paying for CKD. You have filed for that condition?

If you file Stage lll kidney failure and you are a Vietnam vet with type ll diabetes, the VA will change your condition to Diabetic Nephropathy. I get 60% for this kidney problem. Overall, I am a 100% Scheduler plus Housebound. Beside my regular 100%, I also get 70% for Parkinson's Disease.

Yes, I was and still at Stage III. My EGFR ranges from a low of 34, and in the past year have had readings from 60 to 70. Recently I dipped back to 58 which high range of Stage III. Patrick

Thanks for the info Patrick! My husband's GFR is 15 so he is on the transplant list. Can you please explain what housebound means?

Housebound is just designation of SMS-S that briefly shows in need of assistance for some of your daily activities. Unlike Aid and Attendance where you have assistance 24/7.

Yes, My GFR is in the upper 20's - 60% rating. There are specific thresholds for CKD.

Thresholds are: 0 - 10 End Stage, 10 - 30 Stage II, 30 - 60 Stage III, Over 60 is considered within normal range for people with kidney problems. The most important factor is your Creatinine and BUN levels. If these are to high the progression of kidney disease is faster. Patrick

Actually, your BUN is very dependent and fluctuating depending on your level of hydration. Being dehydrated will cause your BUN to increase. This is a bad thing - make sure you drink plenty of water though out the day. Your GFR is a calculation that is weighted heavily on your creatnen levels. My creatnen runs about 2.4 and my GFR is about 28. I have had my creatnen at 2.9 with a GFR of 22.

My DH was told a few months ago that he had lost about 30% of his kidney function. I know his lab reports can be found online, but please tell me specifically which ones to look for. He has a new claim filed for CKD....date of completion is 8-2012 to 6-2013. He is currently at 40% for DMII, hearing, and bi-lateral neuropathy. He is on insulin.

I found it!!!!!!!!!! Based on his reading foto March 2012, his Creatinine (sp) has been as high as 140 and his GFR has been between 51-54.

On edit: going back on myhealthevet, things looked OK until Febr. 2009 when there was a sudden drop off in GFR to 69, by March 09 it was 51 and Creatinine was 1.40
His lab results on 9March 2012 his GFR was 54. The creatinine was 1.33. It was in Nov. of 2011 that PC sent him to nephrologist. He has appt. with kidney doctor in July

I think the correct answer is that your combined disabilities put you at 96% or higher, thus a 100% rating according to VA math.
