Posts: 15 Mar 4 09 12:47 PM	Tags : None As someone new to the VA "system", how long does it typically take to be awarded your rating, and start receiving compensation benefits? I have already completed my C&P Exams for combat and non-combat related injuries. It took three weeks to complete the exams, but that has been over two months. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Posts: 1028 Mar 4 09 1:38 PM	Lots of variables go into play here. Did you file after getting out? Did you retire but used the BDD Program? Each of these will present different time lines till the claim is rated. I retired on 31 Oct 08 using the BDD Program and my claim was rated on 6 Feb 09. It depends on innumerable elements, among them Who you are, what you claimed, what evidence you presented, what evidence you asked the VA to round up, what VARO you submitted it to and what their workload is. Best guess would be 3 mos to 3 years. Submit your claim, Make sure the VA has it entered in their computer, Respond to any VA inquires and then forget about it. When it is done, they'll tell you. Till then, get on with your life. When I said check with the VARO to see if they have your claim, I mean do this once. You cannot call them to progress things. It doesn;t work that way. The folks on the telephone simply don't know. FWIW, so you have a rudimentary idea of the complexity of the task I provide the following link. Posts: 15 Mar 11 09 9:07 AM	I received a letter in the mail from the VA stating "they" are still processing my claim for compensation. I also just applied for VR&E, and they are performing a memo eval rating to determine if I qualify for the program. Did I screw-up by requesting the memo eval to get qualified for VR&E, or should I have waited for the actual rating letter in the mail? Will this slow down my official rating notification from the VA? The reason I went for the VR&E was from the advice I got from the OIF/OEF Program manager (LIC Social Worker) for the area I live. She is one who recommended the memo rating to get the ball rolling. Am I going in the wrong direction? I'll take all the help and advice I can get. Thanks to all!!!!

Browse through older threads on this subject and you will gain all the information you need on the issue. Just to answer your question and the next one you will be asking,"At what stage is my rating now"? It can take anywhere from one month to one year before you get that big brown envelop. You can call every phone number in the VA system and you will never get an accurate answer simply because not a soul on this planet will know where your rating decision is at any given time. So do yourself the biggest of favors and find something to do other then think about you rating decision. Nothing you or anyone else can do to will speed up the processes. The key is patience and one day you'll open your mail box and your whole world will change. All the luck, "The Cat"

Your claim has been ready for decision for the last 5 months. This means that it has been waiting in line to actually be rated. We are currently rating June 2011 claims. With your ETS date being in August, your claim will be rated with the August 2011 claims. If I had to guess, I would say your looking at about 4- 6 more weeks. It could be sooner though, just last month we were still doing March claims. The raters have been picking up the pace. So, if you want to call or e-mail me in a couple weeks I can give you another update on where we are at. Jason" I mean, how hard was that?

I am still waiting for the end of the tunnel. It will be 17 months next week. I didn't write this to discourage you, just some information on how the process goes.

Posts: 195 Apr 25 12 8:05 AM	Like others have said you never know, you probably will have a better chance at winning the lotto than knowing when you are done. Chances are you might get paid before you know, I did. I had a check in the mail They might award somethings first and hold off on others. You might be denied everything. But payment is pretty quick usually from award to payment is less than a week or two. You could get retroactive pay so if you filed within one year of getting out they have to back date you to the time you filed. You could get rated 0% to 100% which 100% is like 2 grand per month and 10% is 127 bucks all tax free. Remember unless your rating is permament they can reevaluate you every so many years for 20 years.
