Posts: 13 Apr 20 12 1:57 PM	I know that us veterans that were stationed in Thailand are the step children of the Vietnam war but I worked in the bomb dump where herbicides were stored and pulled augmentee duty on the base perimeter which was sprayed with herbicides. What I'd like to know is if anyone knows anybody that has been rated for serving ONLY in Thailand?

Posts: 4024 Apr 20 12 3:23 PM	IF you were at UBON, the herbicides were stored at the POL (Petroleum,Oil,Lubricant) storage site near the Auzie Camp. It was NOT stored in a bomb Dump or any AA&E site (Arms,Amunnitions and Explosives) because of a compatability issue. I think back in 68 and 69 just about everyone was a Air Police Augmentee and were required to pull bunker and perimeter duty. Plus, depending on your base, at UBON most barracks were on the perimeter until they built the cement ones on the interior of the base. YES I know of two people, one from UBON who had their Thailand claims for exposure to herbicides granted. Edited 1 time by Daman Apr 20 12 5:05 PM.

Posts: 19 Apr 20 12 5:11 PM	Served in 408th MMS both in the Ammo Dump and Flight line 1969-1970. I know agent orange was used. I was in and out of Ammo dump carting bombs back and forth to be loaded on aircraft. Herbicides were used to keep the the area clear for security purposes. The smoking area was just outside the gates. That is where we would have to go. Does anyone have any proof to aid in compensation claim? Thank for your help. Excewpt for a handful of Army forces assigned to a small northern post in about '64, THERE WAS NO AO IN THAILAND!!!! ""Herbicide" exposure as a DIRECT exposure (stomping through the vegetation on perimeter) YES....but use the term "AO" and your claim will meet the circular file most ricky tick! Don't just take my word for it.....try to find a single award for "AO" anywhere at anyplace in Thailand....then come back and we'll run with it....but Sin Loi, Bros......it ain't gonna hoppen, GI! Posts: 41 Apr 23 12 9:14 AM	07stang, Do not give up. I was a Security troop at Takhli 66-67. During my time at Takhli the base was very small. If you worked ammo storage the road that was between the flightline and the storage area was sprayed. We called it Cobra road due to all the snakes that would be on it at night. My paper work to the VA was for herbicide exposure Thailand. Even my VSO (nam-vet) talked down to me for being in Thailand ( it was our R&R spot,bla,bla) I'm sure you have heard all that crap before. When I got my award letter it says Award for exposure to Agent Orange Thailand. So I have proof that I was exposed to AO in Thailand. I could give a fat rats a$$ what others on this web page have to say about what was sprayed in Thailand. I'm sure it was not weed-n-feed form wall-mart. My paper work form the US Goverment says AO and that is good as gold for me. I'm 100% for leukemia and living my life like I stole it. Do not pay much attention to what some folks here tell you. It is a good place to learn but keep in mind there are some that are just like the VSO I had but there are others that do want to help you. File your paper work and hope for the best but do not give up. If I would have listened to what others said I would have never filed. Good luck.

Mine is in gathering of dust at ST.Pete RO for same.Since the Dec.2011 VA service bullitin AO is now a catch all for herbisidies. Just my thoughts. Jimrb66b

No one.....NO ONE in Thailand has been awarded anything for AO presumed illnesses! NO ONE! The exposure awarded is for DIRECT exposure, nothing else! VA uses form letters far too much and this is an example! When they use "AO" exposure (as they did in the direct exposure cases, unfortunately) it appears that AO is presumptive in Thailand...it ISN'T! I ask you, did you claim merely being Thailand, Willie? I think not (in fact, you clearly state here that your claim was for "herbicide", and that is DIRECT exposure! People, stop spreadi8ng false hope and selective wording! Fillean meal ar an meallaire.

Yeah....that phrase has been there since Day One and VA has done nothing to clarify (but that paragraph I quoted certainly is the qualifier and they do make that clear) There really is no confusion at all, but many vets try to use "AO" as a presumptive and it never flies, never will! Posts: 12936 Apr 23 12 1:17 PM 10,000 plus post...	There are two different issues here, presumptive versus direct and AO versus herbicide. Herbicide includes AO to be safe. As Dan said there is no presumptive in Thailand, you must have direct exposure. If you were in Saigon you are presumptive and if you were in Bangkok, don't even bother filing. Posts: 96 Apr 23 12 5:30 PM	Hi Guys In my claim for direct exposure to AO while at takhli I included a Favorable Communication I got on 30 may 67,commending me for being part of the ground crew (asst. c/c ) on RB66B 53-486 for having high flight time for feb.67 (84hrs.) As any of you flight-line types know this puts me on the the line also at the trim pad all areas right on or next to sprayed areas. If I can't win this one I never win any thing. I would like to know what you all think I would like to add I respect everyone's opinion on this site, after all were in this fight together. Jim rb66

Posts: 66 Apr 23 12 7:58 PM	Stationed from 72 to 74. Yes if you can prove it you should get it, The Checo Report shows it was mainly sprayed around the perimeters of the bases. I only studied Korat. You got alot of good info so far. If you put my user name KORAT PETE in the search box you can pull up my old thread and you can see what I did to get my award. Keep this thread as herbicide exposure not AO exposure and it will stay alive.Good Luck and definitely apply.
