I was in an accident while serving in Afghanistan. At the time of the accident I was knocked unconscious, fractured my right scapula and couldn't remember the last 3 months of my life. I did recognize people who were there with me but not really why I was there. At the time "concussion" was never brought up but talking to Doctors now and describing to them what happened they all sya I recieved a concussion. So I received a concussion and have now been diagnosed with epilepsy. My problem is that the injury that was documented was a fractured scapula. No head injury was ever documented. I am likely not going to be able to perform my current job due to the epilepsy and will most likely lose my job and/or be moved to another position that won't end up paying as much and not have as good retirement options/pensions.
Will I be able to receive some kind of disability from the VA for this? How difficult of a fight do I have ahead of me because of the lack of documentation I had received. I was only 18 during the accident and had ZERO idea how important it was to have stuff on paper.
Who should I contact to help me? Do you have any experience with epilepsy and the VA? Or any experience proving you had an undocumented injury?
No documentation, to my knowledge, exists of my being knocked unconscious during the event. At the time other people were dying and more severely injured than me. I think a lot of things got missed initially. I probably didn't receive a proper assessment until far later than I should have.
Thanks for any help!
