Posts: 3 Apr 2 12 7:31 PM	Tags : back pay, retoactive pay I was medically seperated for asthma and scleroderma in 2010 and I received about $9000 in severance pay after taxes. March 29, 12 I was finally rated by the VA at 30% for my PTSD, but got 0% ratings for my asthma and scleroderma. Will I recieve retroactive pay? Will it be a check or direct deposit? I currently receive 911 GI bill via direct deposit, and that account information is loaded on ebennies, so I am assuming they have my account information. But I am not sure about any of this.... Posts: 414 Apr 2 12 7:39 PM	If you were medically separated like I was and received money on the way out the door once I was rated by the VA when I got home I was made to pay that money back that I had received on outprocessing. Someone gave me some case law and I was able to get the tax portion back through the IG office and then as far as VA they recouped all the money I had received in order for me to receive compensation. Boy was I surprised. No one had warned me about any of this and I was clueless. So when the letter came it was too late. I couldn't give the money back to the Army. So you may be in for a a surprise I would ask someone a general question at the VA regional concerning that.

Posts: 3 Apr 2 12 8:00 PM	I know, its my understanding that they only take the money if you are service connected by the VA for the same disability that you were medically discharged for but if they give you a rating for a condition that you were not discharged for then they dont take the serverance pay back....is this true?

Posts: 2145 Apr 2 12 9:01 PM	If you ever get a 10% or higher rating from the VA for the unfitting conditions, the VA compensation for those conditions will offset your severance. Mike
