I just had a somewhat unsettling C&P exam. I've been battling prostate cancer since may 2005, had my prostate removed, rated 100%, then rerated for residuals after the appropriate amount of time. Cancer came back, had radiation moved back to 100% SCD then re-evaluated for residuals after the appropriate amount of time. 2 years ago the cancer came back again. VA moved me back to 100% and set a C&P exam for 2 years in the future. docs and I agreed to wait till my PSA level was high enough to do the next round of treatments which are hormone deprivation. In the meantime I've been taking mega doses of pomegranate extract and my PSA scores began to decline about a year ago. My urologist can explain it, doesn't think it's the pomex. I see oncologists and then are the same, can't explain it but do believe i still have prostate cancer.
at my C&P exam a few weeks ago, almost 2 years to the day i was rated at 100% again, a young, very polite dr asked me more than the usual questions including "where is your scar?" i told her, "the usual place" - she asked me if my prostate cancer prevented me from working - i retired last June, then if i'd ever had any lost wages due to prostate cancer. she seemed unfamiliar with prostate cancer or presumptive eligibility due to boots on the ground in RVN. she was quite sympathetic but this exam was like any other i've had in 7 years.
I'm a little unnerved that she'll determine that with the declining PSA scores I'm magically healed. just fyi at the same time I was just diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in my lungs, i can make no case that it's SCD and haven't attempted to but I'm trying to avoid having a protracted appeal with the VA while i'm going thru treatment for the lung masses. anyone run into anything like this with a C&P exam after failed prostate surgery and failed radiation?
