Hi, I've lurked here for a while but for the most part have found the answers to my questions without needing to create a new thread.
However, I have a unique question that I have not been able to find the answer to:
I'm a veteran who served in Iraq, who separated honorably in 2010. I have not utilized any of my VA health benefits yet (though I recently signed up for them). I am currently awaiting my initial primary care appointment (still 40+ days away) so I can be referred out to different specialists - who knows how long those appointments will take to get, all things considered.
I am not service-connected as of today, however I have filed my informal claim in order to reserve my effective date. I have no doubt that I will be able to receive service-connection for my conditions - all of them are well documented in both my service medical records, post-service medical records (private), and still exist in the same severity today as they did when I separated.
That said, I'm trying to get these issues treated but the wait time between these appointments is just insane, and has started to interfere with my ability to do work/school.
In my unique situation, if I were to seek treatment now from a private health provider for a condition which will be granted service-connection in the near future, what kind of resistance from the VA am I looking at to get these out-of-pocket costs reimbursed?
As many of you, I hate sitting around, for the lack of a better word suffering, while I wait on a simple primary care appointment. That is almost as agonizing as having the condition itself.
Thanks for all your help!
