And the one where John Wayne has to do a cattle drive with a bunch of young boys instead of seasoned cowboys. Forget the name of it right now. And Clementine (?) the old black and white John Ford movie. Posts: 142 Nov 8 12 2:58 PM	I am a rather big fan of John Wayne and Kurt Douglas films. When I came over to Germany in 2002 I had 168 JW movies from reel, beta, vhs and dvd. I found an add in a local paper asking for JW movies so I figured I would call them and offer to make them copies if they paid for just the tapes. Hell I figured they were just another fan as I was and if someone wanted to watch some good clean films instead of this new age crap then I would help them out. The fella was sourcing as many as he could for his film university. I sold the collection for 90,000 D Marks, about 45K USD. Never have been able to replace them.

I saw Robert Duvall in an interview once make reference that he thought 'Open Range' was the best western he had ever done. I think it was a pretty damn good movie but for him to consider that movie better than 'Lonesome Dove' I just can't imagine. To me Lonesome Dove was one of the greatest modern day westerns and although it is on 2 DVD's (4 parts) I watch that movie about once every 6 mos. To me the best movie John Wayne did was 'The Shootist' with Ron Howard, and Lauren Bacall. In that movie he played a gun fighter that was dying of cancer and, ironically, in real life he was dying of cancer and was aware that was the end of the line for him. That was 'The Duke's' last movie, one of his finest performances, and the one in my collection of John Wayne that means the most to me. I have them all! Josey Whales. Always another favorite.

Some of my old favs are Red River, Big Country, Outlaw Josey Wales, Northfield. and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Newer favs are Open Range, Tombstone, Unforgiven (Eastwood's best I think), and my all time favorite is Lonsome Dove and its two prequels plus the sequel. I have the whole series and watch each of them sometimes. Commanche Moon was excellent.
