Posts: 54 Feb 24 12 12:55 AM	Tags : None Ok guys and gals, just wondering here, my husband gets OPM disability which converts to social security at age 62... Will there be on an offset with his IU at age 62? He just got awarded IU P&T (just got the paperwork today) but has been getting his OPM disability since 2010 (still waiting to be finalized there). Also will he continue to draw the 100% rate until he dies regardless of age? Thanks for any help in figuring this out! Also I dont want this to be complicated but how well does Champva cover? I dont want to use it as a main insurance but right now we have none until OPM gets everything done.

Get enrolled asap. http://www.va.gov/hac/for...ries/champva/champva.asp Add a supplemental policy to it and there are virtually no co-pays. Check out your DEA chapter 35 education bennies also. Some states also offer free tuition and fees to dependents of P&T vets. If you are not retirees, get your DOD 2765 ID cards. Entitled to almost the same on-post privileges as a retiree [ MWR, exchange, Commissary] [no military medical or space available aircraft hops]. Check with your state and local dept of vets to see what local bennies are available. Such as: property tax reductions, reduced vehicle plate fees, free park passes, fishing and hunting licenses, parking privileges, etc. Member-at-large: Disturbed Veterans of America.

Posts: 22 Feb 24 12 7:27 PM	When a federal worker is approved for disability retirement, they are placed on "interim payments" until their case is "finalized". The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) processes the disability retirement and handles the payment. If the worker had health insurance coverage before leaving, the coverage is supposed to continue into retirement( if the worker so chooses), but often, the coverage stops while in "interim payment" status. The coverage is then reinstated upon "finalization" of the disability retirement claim.

We are still waiting on final settlement, almost 2 years on interim payment, could care less about that but I really need our health coverage... Its been 3 years since weve had it.... Hubby is lucky to get everything he needs done at the VA hospital....
