I've been rated 100% (permanent & total with no future examinations scheduled) for PTSD since August 1998. It was determined that because of severity of my PTSD, I was granted "home bound status." I've been in treatment and on medications since that time. My last hospitalization was 2004. Before 2004 I had been hospitalized 10 times at North Chicago and outside hospitalizations. I've been in continuous treatment since on a monthly basis. Last week I received a letter from St. Pete Regional Office in FL telling me that I was being reevaluated for PTSD to see if it had improved. I was given consent forms to sign and another form for statement in support of my claim. Today I got a telephone call telling me from Veterans Evaluations Services in Texas telling me that they would be setting up an appt. to an outside VA provider in Tampa next Thursday. I was only given 6 days notice. I asked if the doctor would have my mental health records and I was told no. The provider was just going to re-exam me for PTSD before it goes before a rating board. I contacted a VA Service Rep and was told that there was nothing that they could do except to say that I had to submit to the exam or I would be re-rated 0%. They would however represent me in an appeal.
I was given no opportunity to obtain my records. How in the hell can any provider render a fair and accurate without any documentation? It appears to be a "lynching.. I wonder why the VA did not send a loaded 45 with the notice of this re-exam. How many Vets are going to end up on the streets or eat their gun? . Will this ever end? And is any politician doing anything about this travesty?
