Posts: 66 Dec 10 11 9:16 PM	I have been waiting since April to write this. That is when the Doctor at my VA examination told me the VA conceeded to my exposure to Agent Orange. I was blown away but wanted to wait until I got the Brown envelope which I received today which confirmed that I was exposed to herbicides. I have been following this forum for a year. I have learned alot from all of you and thank you. But I have also seen discouragement for the Thailand Vets. That is why I am writing this.I almost did not apply because of the burden of proof needed,not being a Security Police that policed the perimeter and the talk on the different forums. But I felt I was exposed because I worked by the base perimeter. So I did and I was correct, they conceeded. I was stationed at Korat AFB Thailand from August 1972 til February 1974. I was an Avionics Instrument Specialist and worked the entire flightline including the engine trim pad. I had a heart attack in May 2007 and some other problems over the years. I had EF 45 METS 7 and got 60%. If you are a Thailand Vet and served at one of the 5 bases near the perimeter don't be fooled you are entitled to herbicide exposure. Who cares what they call it Herbicide or Agent Orange you still are eligbile for Compensation. I AM PROOF OF THAT. I used the CHECO REPORT, Performance Evaluations from my military records,aerial pictures showing where I worked in relation to the perimeter and my doctor reports. Nobody is trying to discourage the Thai vets or many Korean vets from applying but the only one who knows enough about the particular circumstances is the vet. No doubt VBN helped you appreciate what would be needed to file for 'direct exposure'. The Thai vets deserve as much consideration as the VN and the Korea DMZ vets. If qualifying medical evidence, photos, other significant documents, photos and a well-written personal statement are submitted, there is no reason why a vet shouldn't be given 'burden of proof' consideration. Those of us that conducted spray operations are interested in the truth. Thailand Base perimeters were not sprayed with AO which took two to three months to be effective. Commercial herbicides were used. The title of the thread is misleading.

Posts: 4 Dec 22 11 8:06 PM	Congratulations Korat Pete. I have also been stationed at Korat. Today I also heard of another Thai Veteran station at a small signal site in NE Thailand was approved for AO exposure 100% IHD. Maybe VA is starting to seriously consider Thai Vet claims.

Posts: 66 Dec 24 11 2:46 PM	This is what I meant about discouragement for Thai vets. I knew it was just a matter of time for the attacks to start about me misleading exposure to Agent Orange. Evidently he did not notice I put Herbicide in parentheses right next to the word Agent Orange. Or even look at the part of my post that he copied in his post stating who cares what it was called. ALL HE WAS INTERESTED IN WAS DISPROVING THE WORD AGENT ORANGE. NOT A WORD MENTIONED ABOUT ATHAI VET PROVING TO THE VA’S SATISFACTION THAT HE EXPOSED TO HERBICIDE WHATEVER KIND WAS USED OR A CONGRADULATIONS. I don’t know what his problem is but I see this being done with Korean and C123 Vets also. What is really sad is the gentleman seems to have so much knowledge about Herbicides that he uses his knowledge to argue technicality instead of helping us understand the medical issues associated with Herbicides and how to submit our paper work to the VA no matter what it is called. I was an aircraft technician. I know nothing about herbicides. All I know is when I signed up with the VA a few years ago when they saw I was a Thai Vet they had me do the Agent Orange Registry. I did not even know about that. They did not say Herbicide Registry. When I submitted form 21-526 Application for Compensation the box that was checked stated AGENT ORANGE or OTHER HERBICIDES. They were not in separate boxes. Even when the VA responded back to me they used the words: exposure to herbicides (Agent Orange) or dioxin (Agent Orange) numerous times. In my Rating Decision Introduction They do call New Procedures for claims on herbicide exposure in Thailand and Korea dated May 2010. But they also state these chronic diseases are presumptive service connection associated with exposure to herbicides used in the Republic of Viet Nam.They did not even state Agent Orange in Viet Nam either. Also open this link http://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/agentorange/thailand.asp it’s the VA’s website. What Does it say AGENT ORANGE THAILAND MILITARY BASES. Read the whole thing. So to sum it up no one is trying to be misleading. We are going by what we know. So please if you want to argue Agent Orange or herbicides start a new thread and leave this to Vets who are in need of help not arguments. I am done and will not respond to any more of this. As I originally posted I did this mostly myself and did not post for help because of this argument keeps coming up. I only joined this forum because it is the best place for general info. I am looking for Thai Vets or any other Vet that maybe I can possibly help from what I have learned. I would love to hear from others whether you agree with me or not. I have thick skin. This Forum is full of wonderful Vets that have taught me a lot about dealing with the VA and I thank all of you.

The VA has, for a number of years, approved 'direct' claims for commercial herbicide exposure for certainThailand veterans that worked on or near the base perimeters. There is still no authoritative evidence that AO was ever used, stored or transported in Thailand. These are direct claims, not presumptive claims as in Vietnam. The difference being that Thailand vets must prove they worked on or near the perimeter. Vietnam veterans are presumed to have been exposed if they served within the land borders of the Republic. You put "Agent Orange" in the title which would lead folks to beieve that you successfully pushed a Thailand claim for AO exposure. Herbacides (other than AO) is what you were exposed to and what your claim was based upon. I am glad you received compensation but don't get your panties in a wad because someone points out an inaccurate statement. It is almost like you have a chip on your shoulder. Chill out! Posts: 25210 Dec 26 11 4:42 PM	The OP stated in his title opening this thread that VA Awarded him compensation for Agent Orange exposure in Thailand. That is NOT the case, but he did submit a claim for direct exposure to herbicides and was awarded compensation for that. In his initial post he tossed out the quip, "Who cares what they call it Herbicide or Agent Orange..." Well, it DOES matter! Exposure to AO is conceded for all Vietnam (in country) veterans, but NOT for Thailand, so it DOES indeed matter. The numerous posts on VBN about herbicide exposure have NOT been "discouraged"! In fact, hundreds of responses have detailed exactly what is required for a claim for direct exposure to herbicides and a good number of veterans achieved successful ratings for that exposure (I know of none who received ratings and compensation for "Agent Orange" exposure in Thailand), so that premise and argument are false. Filing a claim for direct herbicide exposure (in Thailand or anywhere) is rather simple...provide evidence of the exposure and the claim should be granted. However, Vietnam (in country) vets are presumed exposed to Agent Orange and need do nothing further for claim in any of the presumptive diseases (except, of course, a diagnosis). So, the difference is solely one of Agent Orange presumptives versus direct herbicide exposure ( NOT Agent Orange) and proving the exposure. The title of the Thread is misleading.
