Thank you for help on previous questions, but this time I have a general question concerning health care. I am 100% IU P&T, and also on SSDI, my wife is/was active duty until 30sep11 when she will be medically retired due to asthma (which started on our tour in south Mississippi at Keesler, and is allergy related but the military will not let her stay in). She will rcv 30% for asthma and we must begin a VA claim for disability for other problems/disabilities she has since the med board only rated her medically dischargeable disabilities and not all the medical disabilities she has. We fought and appealed, but her medical retirement at 30% stands effective 30sep2011. So I am a disabled vet rated 100%, on SSDI, she is soon to be medically retired at 30% and we have a one year old son. We are having some trouble understanding how our healthcare works. Her and I both have the VA but our son needs coverage. Can someone help explain to me the best route to go concerning buying tricare health benefits, the CHAMPVA, and how medicare plays into this. Should we buy the tricare family plan? Is tricare the best out of these options? Also any advice on dental coverage, so far we only see Delta dental as an option. Basically please help me understand my best options here... My idea is to buy tricare for the family for health care and buy delta dental for dental (I would like me and my family all see the same family doctor rather than me and my wife with the VA and our children with separate doctors).
Thank you for your help.
