I read the govt. is going to start paying family members to be caretakers for their vet family member but it is only for the Gulf war vets and later. What about us VietNam wifes and all the others?? We have PTSD, IHD,ED, cancers, etc. to deal with and we aren't even going to be considered. My husband is a Navy VietNam vet who has IHD, systemic lupus, discoid lupus, degenerative disk disease, psorasis, pernicious anemia, GERD, hernia, ascending aorta aneursym, PTSD. I know I am forgetting something. I help him bathe, shave, and take meals to the bed because he is bedfast due to complications from heart surgery. Along with him, I also have a 28 year old son with Downs syndrome. I am responsible for everything that goes on in our home with no outside help. I think the VA should rethink their policy and include ALL VETS for caregivers.
