I retired from the Navy August 30, 2010. I had filed my claim under the BDD program and prior to my retirement date, I had completed all my physicals for the VA. My claim date was 9/1/10. Yesterday I got a deposit from the VA for retroactive compensation, however I have yet to receive a benefits letter from the VA. Here are my questions:
Do they pay all the way back to September (which would be October 1st)?
Also, when I filled out the claim, I listed all my dependents. How can I verify they are all in the system so that I am getting compensated for them?
Do you have to provide special documentation for dependents over 18 in college?
The reason I ask is that the retro payment was only 1/2 of what I had roughly guessed my rating would be. I have sleep apnea w/CPAP (50%), retina detachment with complete vision loss in left eye (right eye corrective to 20/20), post operative arthritis in right foot with extensive hardware remaining, right ankle stiffness and reduced mobility, post operative left wrist loss of mobility with extensive hardware remaining, lower back pain, left shoulder pain, & tinnitus. My "guess" was at least 70% total, but the payment they deposited wasn't even close to 4 months of 70% with spouse, child, and 2 addition college age children.
