Hi everybody, I am a 70% confirmed disabled Marine Corps Iraq War Veteran, I have PTSD and other ailments. I have an honorable discharge with 5 years of service from the Marines and have already been accepted by the VA as disabled. With all the medications they give me for PTSD and the side effects that come with them, I have chosen to smoke marijuana instead to help my pain. My question is:
When I go to my Veterans Affairs annual screening appointments and if they test me for drugs and marijuana comes up in my system would they use this to dismiss me of benefits somehow? Can they take away my disability benefits because of testing positive for weed?
I asked my doctor about this before and told her why I smoke, and she told me that as far as she knows they cannot prescribe me any narcotic pain killers if I test positive for marijuana. I can imagine that alot of vets out there smoke weed and just want to make sure I don't get my self in trouble. No sarcastic answers please this is a serious question, that a response with someone knowing the correct answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
