Posts: 507 Aug 25 10 5:50 PM	My wife wants to open a small business, just a trailer from which she can sell pizza and sandwhiches at festivals or parks in the summer. I am IU P&T, so can I volunteer once in a while to clean stuff or prep things for her so she may have some time off? There is no way I can do this for myself, just the thought of the paperwork makes me ill. At best I could give her a few hours per week. Let the opinions flow, she is waiting for my answer before she goes ahead. Go Cougs! 100% TDIU P&T SSDI USN

Don't be talking to Others about You being TDIU or what you are getting...or anything else about YOUR Personal Business. There is just NO WAY to know who or what is Crawling Around out there. IF someone asks you...Just tell them that You are Retired. If they ask You from what...just tell them "FROM WORK"...and change the subject. It's ALWAYS Too Late...to try and put the Tooth Paste Back INTO the Tube...once the Paste is OUT. Because of so much negativity about IU...Right HERE on the VBN a Few Years Ago. I refused to just walk around and pass out Flyers for My Son's Business. Or even go and sit in his Office while he passed out the Flyers. I do, on occasion, Help My Son NOW! So...Yes, by all means go and help your Wife...and have some fun doing it. Just Be Careful(NOT Paranoid) about Who You Say What to about Your Personal Business. Survivir

I know the State VA Benefits have On the Job Training and Other Programs...Depending on the State..maybe they might know. That would be something to definitely check into. Also, of course, the Chapter 35 people...1-888-442-4551...or Schools that accept Chapter 35 would also be a place to check, too. And maybe the Better Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce, too. Get out a Pad and Pen...along with the Yellow Pages...and start calling and writing down the answers. Just like in a job interview...if whomever you are talking to...doesn't know...ask them for a Number of Someone who MIGHT know. Survivir

What is the difference between working a few hours cleaning and doing prep work in this scenario as opposed to performing the same work for pay at your neighborhood greasy spoon?

I see a big difference. He is merely helping his wife out. He can sit down or leave whenever he wants. If he were employed this would be different. He is doing nothing more than volunteering when he fills he can. As long as helping out isnt 40 hours a week
