Any one know the last day to apply for this year, and the first day I can send in the paper work!

i'm pretty sure it's july first !!! but i would send it in as soon as possible !!!'cause they pay from august 30th on !!!

and you can apply anytime during the year !!!

Clothing Allowance:

Prosthetic appliances and medications have an effect on clothing.
If qualified, a veteran can receive a one time or yearly allowance for reimbursement.

lula, If the vet has a disability that causes clothes to wear out while using wheel chairs or just about for any reason he will be reimbursed at the rate of. I think like 600 bucks a year. But you have to be approved of course. If you are interested I will find the criteria for you.

Any veteran who is entitled to receive compensation for a service-connected disability for which he or she uses prosthetic or orthopedic appliances may receive an annual clothing allowance.The allowance also is available to any veteran whose service-connected skin condition requires prescribed medication that irreparably damages the veteran's outer garments.

The application for the Annual Clothing Allowance, VA Form 10-8678, can be downloaded from http://www.va.gov/vaforms/medical/pdf/vha-10-8678-fill.pdf Please follow the directions on the form regarding where to submit this form. You can also contact your nearest VA Regional Office for more information.

I submitted a claim for a second clothing allowance about 3 weeks ago. I received a letter yesterday that it had been reviewed and approved and will be sent for processing in August.

I am not holding my breath about getting the second one, but I sent a copy of my original clothing allowance that was forever, I never have to file again, and this second was because I was given another brace for the left knee. So, now I have 2 metal hinged braces, 1 for both knees.

$715, I would send a request as soon as possible, if you don't by August 1, you won't get it.

I sent mine in September for two years straight and received it in November and October. This year I sent it in June so I could receive it between August and September which from what I understand is the usual dispersal months. My 100% vet brother is static with his clothing allowance and receives it every August first.

Left knee grade 4 arthritis -30%
Right knee Chondromalacia patella -10%
Left knee instability -10%
Narcissistic Personality Disorder. -30%
Tinnitus - 10%
Bilateral pes planus -10%

Common etiology lower extremities.
-------------------------70%
100% IU/ permanent & total pending appeal

Cluster bombing from B-52s is very, very accurate. The bombs always hit the ground.

If you received it once you should receive it twice. I got my second with no issues and my brace changed from a hinged to the off-loader brace. You should have no problems given the severity and dependency you have with orthopedic appliances.

Is this benefit once a year? Do you only receive one clothing allowance no matter how many disabilities ruin your clothes?

Example: A veteran has two knee braces, back brace and has to apply medication creme for skin diseases....Does this veteran get one clothing allowance or two?

No thanks Stillhere, my husband has no need for clothes allowance. I was curious because I wasn't aware of it.

This is a once a year benefit, and you can receive it each and every year.

What I applied for was an additional clothing allowance. I used the latest court opinion, that has not changed any laws, but as far as I have read, there is nothing against having a second clothing allowance.

Last year was the first year and I was found static, this year I had a brace ordered for the other knee, so I am asking for 2. The letter says reviewed and approved, we'll see

I think only one clothing allowance per year.
If the brace is something you will always wear you can have your doctor write a permanent prescription and turn it to the prosthetics department.
They can write a letter and you shouldn't have to apply each year, it should come automatic. At least that's what I was told last year, and the prosthetics department gave me a letter saying I don't have to apply anymore. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I will see what happens this year.

Like I said before,

I just applied for a second, or, Additional clothing allowance and enclosed a copy of the court decision of Sursely V Peake in which the court opined that a Veteran MAY be given a second clothing allowance if they have additional braces on seperate body parts that may damage clothing even faster. Doesn't say they have to, and doesn't say they cannot.

There is no VA change in the clothing allowance handbook, and it doesn't say that you can, or cannot receive a second clothing allowance for seperate body parts.

My first clothing allowance award was last year for a brace on the right knee and it was static meaning I never have to apply again for the right knee brace, clothing allowance award.

I got a letter from the VA prosthetics that said my second request (for an additional allowance) for a prescription and fitting of a brace for the left knee has been reviewed, and approved, and will be processed in August for payment.

I included a copy of the award from last year that shows it was static and the system already shows I have a static award so when they reviewed it they could see that I am entitled to an annual clothing allowance.

I will be a little syrprised if in August I do get an additional payment, but I will try to remember to post on here if I do, or maybe I won't and keep it a secret.
