Posts: 33 Apr 7 10 8:50 AM	For those of you who may have a problem with social security, use a company called ALLSUP. The SSD process is a killer and if you get deinied, it can be heart breaking. I used them, no problems what so ever. They have arohrowund a 90% success rate. They only take a percentage of what you are awarded, but it is worth it. Just thought I would throw that out there for you guys.

Posts: 6036 Apr 7 10 10:26 AM	Having attended literally thousands of Social Security Administrative Law Judge Hearings, I found that none of the Nation companies were generally all that good. They do sometimes have a person locally that does a really good job, but they never stay with the companies (why work for small wages, when they can get it all by going private?). As a general rule, local attorneys did a much better job. They have to build a reputation in their local community, and as a result, they tend to try harder. There are exceptions, but generally they do a much better job. The rate of pay is the same. They get a set percentage, up to a maximum amount out of your back benefits. That percentage is the same, all over the country. You figure, the national firms have to pay for a ton of expensive advertising, and they split the fees with whoever actually does the work locally. They tend to get guys right out of law school, provide very little training, and have high turnover. Time and time again, the first time their lawyer met the client was on the day of the hearing. That just does not happen very often with the local ones. Posts: 157 Apr 9 10 7:48 AM	As a former SSA and OHA employee I personally feel you have a much better chance with a local attorney. Reasons being they usually know the ALJ much better since they work with one office only, majority of the time, they may even lunch with the ALJ or socialize in the evenings, belong to local organizations together, golf together or share other interest in their community. They usually have more time for your case and to research your records at the local office without extensive travel involved. Being local they can build a relations with an employee and call up to get results to a reply quicker. Nothing illegal at all with this. Its just knowing and appearing before the same ALJ's and getting to know their rating criteia, working with the same clerks, case workers, admin personnel, even the security guards. Bigger companies usually come an hour or so before the hearing to reveiw your record and thats all they know of your case. If they take your case they are 99% sure from your initial applicatiion you qualify. All in all you have a choice for either but most of the lawers that came from out of town I didn't know whereas the locals I seen regularlly I called by their first name, AS DID MOST OF THE ALJ's. No bribes or favors exchanged, just a working and knowledgable professional relationship. Hope this helps.
