I was a light wheeled vehicle mechanic (truck). 63B20.  My first unit in Vietnam was Btry E, 41st Arty, Quad .50's. I did a lot more than the core duties of being a truck mechanic, was on the road with the gun trucks, was on rotating guard duty, was tdyd to far flung outposts to check mechanical function of generators and trucks.

We had people return to the Base Camp at An Khe grateful to finally be back at a place of perceived safety only to psychologically break when neighboring compounds came under mortar attack or our section of the perimeter harassed.

There was daily outgoing artillery fire, the daily sound of automatic weapons fire, weekly incoming mortar attacks, night views of the red rain falling from the sky courtesy of Puff the Magic Dragon, the occasional 122 with the distinctive double detonation, the ever constant helicopter traffic, the scrambles to the bunkers, the finding of one's self on the hootch floor waking from a sleep finding yourself getting your weapon and ammo, steel pot and flak vest and boots after being slammed out of your bunk all while as low to the floor as possible.  And tedium and boredom, and the feeling of imprisonment from all the concertina barbed or razor wire  and sandbagged fortifications 

Road travel required constant alertness to any disturbance of the roadbed, unusual activity of the people along the roads, observation of anything of value left intact beside the road (if it was safe to move it would have been turned into use or profit by the locals), alertness to terrain and topography in a military sense. anything not right...

You would come back to a place and automatically freeze if there was anything out of place until you could determine it was safe.. And occasionally the surreal display of the night fire of Dusters and Quads
in directed fire.

Meanwhile, having to deal with the other military actors supposedly on your side who had different agendas.

A good VSO (Veterans Service Officer) can Guide you through the process. There is a wealth of material on the logistic transport units on the internet,, google "The Hard Ride", 'Gun Trucks,', 'the hardened convoy concept'

Buddy letters from people who have known you before and after service, letters from people who have known you during your life after service who can relate your problems, your wife, former wife or girlfriend, close friends, even clergy. My former girlfriends to my surprise wrote letters about the behaviors that caused them to finally break with me.

Meanwhile, keep getting therapy and stay on any medication regimen prescribed and be sure to let the treating medical personnel know if something is working, is not working, causing side effects, and if you have changes in mood. You can learn techniques that assist you in maintaining a direction towards 'normal', to help you to have some semblance of a life.
