i usually agree with NM on most things but definitely not on this one !!! they send me 65 miles one way for treatment , plus over$4.00 in tolls, that's not right !!!if they don't want to pay travel, let them build a hospital in my area ,

-- And I'll do my part, giving up the pay, and double-checking the facts to see if Congress did its job correctly.

(Personally, I've forgone hundreds of dollars of reimbursement because the hassle isn't worth it to me. But that's just my quirky situation.)

 There are bigger things than travel pay and we are fortunate to get it.  I agree that "The benefit is earned, and Congress granted it, and it should be given."

All I expect is what is coming to me and no hassles getting it.  During the course of an average year I use three VAMCs and one VAOPC.  Travel pay to one VAMC is $23.05 after deduction. The travel pay to the other two VAMCs are in the $50 range.  Travel pay to the VAPOC is 64 cents after deduction.  I average 5 VA appointments a month.  The annual travel pay is in the hundreds of dollars and I am not prepared to give that up and not claim it.  

Everyone has the choice to claim earned benefits or not claim them.  Disability compensation is an earned benefit.  How many disabled  veterans are willing to give up their disability compensation?  Is excellent medical care enough?

It is interesting to see different views on the subject.
