How did we live without them?

I see folks walking, driving, or just sitting somewhere, all with a cell phone in their ear, talking away. I cannot help but wonder just how important are all those conversations.

So, how the folks here. How importent are your cell phone calls?

We do not have a home phone. We use our cell phones as our home phone as well.

Does not play well
With others.

My home and my brother's home do not have a land line. We share the cell plan and have 700 minutes between 3 adults. We rarely go over 300 minutes.

Depends on the situation.

I can see some instances where a cell phone could be considered must have....such as emergencies....all the way down to totally unnecessary...such as spam calls/text messages.

Having grown up with a rotary dial phone, it is easy to for me to say they are not needed, but I think they are convenient at times.....like most recently when I was halfway on a 2 hour one way trip to the VAMC and my wife was able to call me to let me know that the cardio clinic called to say my appointment was canceled.

Just another stupid thing we really don't need!! I love seeing all those AAA HOLES on their cell phones while driving!!! They probably kill as many people now as drunk drivers!!! BAN THE SOB things!!! I know people that give them to their 6 years old kids..Ever been to the show and seen all those morons texting/ on the internet/ twittering//looking at pictures!!!

I don't own a cellphone. I might use the land line once or twice a week. I communicate almost entirely via e-Mail.

Update: June 7th I got my first cell. Bought a Moto Droid 2. Used it traveling across country. It was indispensable. I shared my location with my son who tracked my location in case something happened. Traded it in on a Moto Droid X in July. Phone went dead one Saturday night in August. I thought i'd have apoplexy. Panic set in as the Verizon store was closed. Wife suggested pulling the battery and reseating it. It worked fine on reboot. It took me about a month to decide I can't live without it. Its a phone, GPS Navigator, I can create a 3G mobile hotspot, It's a web browser, camera, e-mail client calendar, radio, MP3 player and hundreds of other things. All in my pants pocket. Who knew? Fookin' amazing. It costs me $150 a month but I don't pay for a landline or cable.

Got to have it... first, my landline phone SUCKS!!! out of the last 9 months, it has worked for about 4 months... rest of time it's dead or you hear nothing but static. With my disabilities, if I fall, I can call my hubby or kids to come help me.... Otherwise, I'd lay in the yard until someone figured out I was missing.

I've just recently been diagnosed with MDD at the VA. The report indicates more likely than not service connected. I have completed 2 c and p's. The VA claim is getting close to the review board. SSDI was approved. This is a dissorder I didn't know I suffered with. I knew I suffered bad depression a few times over the years, but didn't know I had a dissorder until diagnosed. Affected marriage. May have affected employment, not sure. The claim is about to hit the review board. "More likely than not service connected" was used. Treated at mult. hos. for MDD. What chance do I have for a successfull VA claim.

Some families PAY 100's of dollars a month for their cell phones when you throw in all those SPECIAL FEATURES (Like watch a MOVIE on your cell phone or ballgame, twittering, texting, photo's etc) and if you have kids they all have to have one so they can sextext each other!!?????

Can you sextext from a phone booth???

At least we get EVERYTHING INSTANTLY like when cousin Fred farts in Germany or niece Lucy is brushing her teeth im ALABAMA and of course all the POLITICAL BS!!!!

I have a land line and that is all. My brother and I grew up in a home where there was no telephone.

I have a special ring for my son and one for my brother--I don't answer unless a call is from one of them.

Like Steamjockey, almost all my communications are via email unless I am talking to a person face-to-face.

I have the same thoughts about cell phones as I did about pet rocks years ago--I didn't purchase a pet rock either.

I was surprised to see that the poll showed that I share the same view about cell phones as many others.

iPhone with all the bells and whistles! Have to I am still working and communication is a MUST.

Hey steam and the rest I get and recieve emails by iphone where ever I am and also stay connected with a lot of associates view text message.

In this day and age you can not compete in the business world without one.

Now my wife is another story!

The thing I don't get is the damn texting nonsense! If the person you are texting back and forth is using a cell phone, why not just call them??? It is annoying to have people you are visiting constantly doing that damned text thingy!

Being paranoid - only describes those who have put the entire world under surveillance.
