Posts: 23 07/08/09 08:41:31	Just curious. Do any of you (male only) Desert-Storm veterans have trace-moderate amounts of blood in your urine lab specimen results. If so, does your VA PCP address this? If so, what is the cause behind this blood. My husband has had trace-moderate amount detected in his lab results but nothing is ever mentioned. I do know blood in a male patient's urine can be of something needing investigating. I realize all causes will not be the same. I am just very curious if you too have this. Thanks a bunch.

Posts: 9511 07/08/09 14:07:27	Trace amounts of blood in the urine of men is normal. All men secrete a certain amount of red blood cells through their urine on a daily basis and trace amounts of blood usually show up when urine is tested. About one in ten men have enough blood in the urine to actually be visible at times. This is called hematuria. It is not a disability in and of itself, but is often a symptom of something else. Many different medical problems can cause hematuria, some of which can be very serious. If you have concerns about the lab results, ask the doctor. I'm guessing that the amount of blood that is showing up in the urinalysis is within normal limits and that is why nothing is being said, but it never hurts to ask. Cruiser

Posts: 24 07/10/09 07:23:33	Thank you Cruiser, His PCP has been made aware. His PCP does want to get an ultrasound and CT with dye contrast just to be sure nothing major is going on due to it turning "moderate". Thanks again.
