Posts: 1503 07/05/09 11:02:06	Tags : None This is a request that I hope you will all follow. We have many knowledgeable people on this board who can answer just about anything that comes up. That being said.. Please don't put people on the spot by asking for a specific person to answer a specific question. That person may not visit the forum for days, or they just be busy. Just post your question and it will get answered. If it is wrong and say, Cruiser sees it, he will correct it. If Cruiser, NCC, Vike or one of the other pros...don't chime in, then you can bet the post is correct. We are lucky to have VSOs, former and current raters here to answer questions and I want to keep them here and not burn them out etc. Burn them out meaning, feeling obligated to check to see if they have been specifically asked a question on the board or in their message box. Messages is another thing...Please do not message claims questions to me or Cruiser or, Jdave... I am not on here every day. I won't answer claims questions either. Reason for that is, I want any answers I give fact checked in the open. Please just post your questions in the forums. If you take one answer from one person, that may be wrong and you run with it, then what? Pretty much everyone here is anonymous so don't be afraid to post the questions. I don't even know who you are and I have all the switches. I don't even know your email address...Get the point? I see qiute abit of this in the area of PTSD. Maybe replicate this request on all of the boards?? And pin it??? once again, just a thought, Wz

I would like to add...that Veterans should NOT respond to a post by saying that an "Expert" will be along to help them. I am NO Expert...and I usually do not reply to those posts...because I am NO Expert. Maybe others do not respond to those replies. either. Survivir

Posts: 1513 07/05/09 22:32:34	Like I said, keep in mind, some of these guys are active VSO's, Raters etc. They deal with Vet issues all day and then come here to donate their time. They like to take some time off too and some people that know the answer won't answer your question if it is directed at a specific person. So again, just post your question and the mods/admins will make sure we get you an answer. To the older folks here, if you see one directed at a name or whatever, jump in and answer it if you know it. Then kindly remind the newb that doing that is really not cool, but be nice and all. Survivir Maybe the person who indicated they are not an expert, did in fact, have a solution to part of the problem/question and were showing their humility by suggesting others might know more. Of course, I don't really know because I am not an expert in this area. -- My remarks shown above are opinions unless stated otherwise or substantiating material is cited or quoted.--

Posts: 9510 07/08/09 13:02:00	I get quite a few PMs asking for assistance with a claim. Some of them are quite lengthy and involved. Others ask if they can send me their records to review. Please folks, I'm not in a position to be your VSO. Because of my real, paying day job and my family responsisbilities, I simply don't have time to take on the job of representing or giving private assistance to all of the folks who request it. I usually spend at least an hour or two each day answering questions and responding to inquiries in the open forum, and that is about all of the time I can spare. In the past I have declined all off line requests for assistance with a claim; however, recently I have answered a few questions sent to me by PM. Unfortunately I am going to have to go back to my prior position of denying such requests because it isn't fair to honor some and not others. Not only that but often responding to a simple question leads to a series of additional questions and I find that I just don't have time. To those who have gotten angry at me in the past, and there are a few, I'm sorry. If everyone will please post your questions or concerns in the open forum it will allow many to respond and as much as it pains me to say it, I have been corrected on a few occasions when I stated something that was wrong. Posts: 1607 07/08/09 14:07:05	I have to agree with Vol and cruiser. This forum is a wonderful site to help veterans and others who come in. It is made up of volunteers! Why should the better knowledgeable have to become private counselors? To me, the private emails are to ask about something for posting publicly (such as pinning), fun enjoyment between people who are becoming friends, or VBN business. There are a lot of people outside of this forum who are in the business of helping; i.e., vet organizations, lawyers, and the VA itself. If there is a specific problem that a questioner doesn't want made public, then maybe it is better to go that route. How about letting these knowledgeable people enjoy being in here also? They shouldn't have to regret ever volunteering to help. Any questions should, as has been said, be put in open forum. THAT is the reason for this site. Not for a private consult. Any and all then have a chance to learn or respond and if there are differences of opinions, that means more choices to ponder. Hopefully the less knowledgeable have experience and the ability to learn from other threads that can be passed on to questioners. I know I have learned a lot here and try to pass it on. Maybe people like me can take some pressure off those who consistently get asked questions by offering info found, maybe even finding other threads that cover the question and inserting for a possible solution.
