Posts: 145 06/29/09 10:21:10	Pending Universal Health Care VS Tricare VS VA Has anybody seen anything in writing about the proposed OB Universal Health Care plan and how it will affect military retirees who are T & P who are 65 and currently with Medicare as primary and Tricare as secondary? With the apparent health care which would include "rationing" with these proposals maybe it would be better to go to the VA for health care rather than wait 6 months for a hip replacement using Universal Health Care like they do in Canada. Comments welcome.

No out of pocket or reimbursements or worry that insurance won't pay on time, etc etc etc 3. What makes you think the universal health care plan will affect Medicare, Tricare, or VA? Several other articles I have read either directly address or imply rationing for the elderly. #2 I do use the VA for treatment (and for RX) or both mental and heart/blood pressure problems. However, I do like to use my local general MD around the corner for ailments where I can be seen the next day VS several days or weeks later by VA. There is some out of pocket costs which I don't mind paying but I like the convenience and the ability to choose a doctor if I want. #3 to a degree that IS my original question that I seek an answer to.

The blog you quoted was quoting an emailer (trained correspondent? trained note taker? I doubt it) who attended a Hispanic Senator's meeting with a militant Hispanic Organization. None of those sources are viable in my opinion. 2. If you're not aware, every VAMC and Clinic has walk-in hours. Show, get treated and leave. No, its not fast, but its free. If you want to pay an outside DR, go for it. Just don't complain about having to pay for something that is free. 3. Nobody knows whether VA, Medicare, Tricare, etc will be affected because that level of information has not been made public. We'll just have to wait and see. Posts: 542 07/09/09 18:37:24	The reason no one has told us that level of information is because they don't know themselves. There are several health care bills floating around the House and I know of at least two in the Senate. I would not start worrying quite yet. It is still going to be some time before anyone has an idea what will happen. Having said that, I don't think they will do much if anything with VA benefits. Even politicians don't like to re-invent the wheel. There may be some tweaks here and there but basically I think it will stay pretty much the same. As for Tricare. I would think if there was going to be any changes in it, it will be in the form of payments of co-pays and premiums. Even with that I don't think that it will be to the point that there will be an outrage. The DoD still needs to have the Military branches full.
