Posts: 612 May 21 09 4:42 PM	Tags : None I was at the local coffee shop this AM and struck up a conversation with a fellow at the counter who was wearing a NAVY ballcap. Being a fellow of my age I of course thanked him for his service and asked if he was a Nam vet so if so I could give him a Welcome Home.He shared with me that he had served in Nam As a SEAL team member.AFter some time I asked him what Beer he normally drank. He did not answer Budweiser.Let me exlpain that I have a close friend who is in his late 40's that was a Seal team member that has shared with me that SEALS always order Bud.I am not sure why but Tim has told me this Is a good Test for Pretenders. Why is it that among Nam vets there is a surplus of SEALS,Specilal Forces, LRRPS,Marine force Rcon etc. What could possibly be the problem with having served as a Machinests Mate, Army cook, Supply guy Etc.I served in Army Aviation in a mission that caused me to both recieve fir and return such daily but we could have not done so without all of the rest of the team.NOONE was better than the other maybe just more suited to different tasks. I am at a loss why my Nam guys feel that it is so important to change the facts of their service. EVERYONE WAS EQUALLY IMPORTANT AND COURAGOUS.They to a man stood in there and did what their country asked of them. Thanks for listening. Love,Loyalty and Respect MadMichael

If you listen to all these wanabe`s it makes one wonder was there any supply clerks, aircraft mechanics, cooks,admin clerks or support people in `Nam. Michael, I like to play the dumb guy when someone starts their talltails about being the badass in `Nam. Once that person says enough to confirm in my mind that he is lying then I walk away. One thing I do wonder though. Wonder if any of those "pretenders" would like to share my physical and psychological wounds ? What I would like to do is to say thanks to all the support personal who have serverd in all wars/conflicts. To agree with our Brother,MadMichael, we could not have done our jobs without them doing theirs. Yes, EVERYONE WAS EQUALLY IMPORTANT and EQUALLY a HERO . Edited 1 time by Flapper May 23 09 10:53 PM.

I do have several young men in my family that have served in the box and they do not seem to be so prone to all this bullcrap. I often wonder if we Nam gus are prone to these delusions because of the way things were in this country after the end of 'our' war. What do all of yall think. I do not view this as such a big deal as I used to am more interested in gaing insight as how to best help all vets. MadMichael

Posts: 5220 May 21 09 7:46 PM Go Tar Heels! Closet Vols Fan	Another way of finding out is asking them what was the name of their ship was during BUDS training? There are only 3 ships during my time in service and the training team numbers are a combination of the team of that particular training session and the number of the ship they were assigned too. Although I am a legitimate Marine Force Recon, during the Vietnam era the SEALS were just getting started and we trained them to begin with, then we did joint training as well. The joint training still continues today. The last episode of the SEALS was the sniper incident a few months ago. These SEALS as do all of them go through Marine Corps Sniper School. Patrick

Blows me away.... A Seal friend of mine loaned me a wetsuit for a dive we were doing, it had his little "Aqua Lung" pin on it....Someone asked me if I was a Seal and I said no, they said why is that little "Aqua Lung" pin on your suit then? I told them some Seal A**Hole put it there My friend almost fell down laughing.... Later, Nick

Posts: 612 May 21 09 8:18 PM	The 'dude' did not belong in the US Army It was forunate for him that ya'll got his ass out before he got hurt by real combatants.Top, this is eaxactly the way I envisioned an all volunteer force. I as an old trooper am very happy the way the force stucture has worked out. MadMichael Ps; I do wish we could find a way to not depend so much on the National Gaurd,Seems unreasonable to think that 50 something year old E-5s to be able to perform the way it should get done

Posts: 442 May 21 09 8:41 PM	There were about 2.7 million in-country vets but as of the last U.S. Census, 9 million claim to be. SOBs!!!!!!! My granddaughter is in 5th grade at a private school in Las Vegas. She recently told her mom that her science teacher had told the class that he was in Vietnam and had to kill people. Claimed he did it by "ripping their throats out". Said "he had to do what he had to do". I IMMEDIATELY knew this guy was FOS since NO Vietnam vet would talk about this to a bunch of kids!!!! I had him checked out and he did his entire stint at Camp Pendleton. NEVER left the states. Has ONE medal...the National Defense Service Medal. I'm ready to bust him but my daughter doesn't want me to cause problems since she actually likes him as a teacher and my granddaughter does to. I hope I have the chance to meet him face to face. I'm 5 hours away by plane. From the Delta to the DMZ and all points in between, Cambodia - '70-'71; Hanoi - '73.

They're not hard to spot once they open their mouths. There are an abundance of them, and it's not mentally healthy for me to be around them. I'm hoping when I enter in-patient, that this sort of thing isn't going on. This is why I feel so comfortable with the guys at my Battalion reunions. Even though you never met the dude before, he carried the same ruck, same weapons, went on the same ambushes and patrols, was in the same jungle, humped the same mountains, so there is an immediate bond and you'd trust him with anything like you would a family member. Posts: 985 May 21 09 9:04 PM	I saw this guy in a Shreveport VAMC waiting room walking around with a cup of piss in his hand telling anyone that would listen that he was with Lt. Calley in Vietnam. He was supposed to leave the piss in the cubby hole in the bathroom and I would guess the guy was about 35. He was about 25 years too young to fit the story. He walked over to me and started the same story and I told him to get out of my face or he would be in the emergency room. I felt bad later because the guy was obviously off his rocker. I don't like being around crazy people. One nut in the room is enough. Posts: 7311 May 22 09 6:43 AM	I am a in the middle Vet. Always get asked where I served in Nam. Christ I got out of high school in 79. I see alot of what you all are talking about. But, a little bit of history on me. I graduated recon school in 79 served 2 years there transfered to the army started out with 82nd airborne and immediatly transferred to a ranger battalion from there after i got shot 3 times I got selected to transfer to special forces once there my pt score was so high I got transfered to delta force. What a nice career so far 1595 combat jumps and 2K kills. and 1500 were hand to hand. Well as it goes I got promoted and the next thing that happened was amazing. Me, little ole me starred in the last james bond movie. And I do sale autographs. Wait Did I tell you I have combat jump wings from each unit I served in. And I got my scuba from the underwater car in the movie. Dean

Posts: 2420 May 22 09 7:44 AM	I remember coming home from the Nam and wanting to get out of uniform as soon as possible. In my mind it was the right thing to do. It didn't really work though. It was pretty easy to pick a Vvet out of the crowd. After coming home and having my 13 year old brother die 4 days after getting out of the Army and 4 months later having my father chase me out of his house with his deer rifle, I knew I was in trouble. I went to the VA in White River and they basically told me that there was nothing wrong with me and to just go home and forget about it. That was in 71. Back then it wasn't fashionable to be a Vvet. As time went on and Vietnam started to be more on the forefront everybody wanted to be a Vvet. That's when the shiat got really out of hand. It was hard to pick out the real guys from the wannabes. Nowadays I just roll with it and don't try to let it bother me much. After going to the VA shrink and two C&P'S from a physcologist and having to battle the VARO for nearly 3 years to get compensation, I don't have anything to prove If you want to be a legend in your own mind .GO FOR IT.

Posts: 391 May 22 09 9:09 AM	I remember the day just like it was yesterday. There I was all alone and surrounded by and entire NVA Division. I had my M-16, one mag and my bayonet. What was I to do? Well after lying in the jungle for 10 days with no food and water, I decided that I had to do something. I finally caught the entire NVA Division eating lunch at the same time and made my move. I charged with my M-16 blasting and my bayonet slashing right into the middle of that division. I first took out the commander and his entire staff, destroyed the communications hut, cp and the mess hall. After that I continued to slash the NVA with my trusty bayonet and use my empty M-16 as a club. I finally was able to grab a NVA machine gun with one hand and a box of grenades with the other and continue on my killing spree. Finally after a 23 hour firefight, I was able to escape after killing 99.9% of the entire division. I found a motorcycle and hightailed it out of there. Of course, there is no record of this because I was on a Double Secret mission for the CIA. I was an Army Ranger, Navy Seal, Force Recon Marine one man fighting machine. I hated sitting there omg thankful u can have them mailed or id be so screwed any way i heard this voice of someone talking about all this stuff he had done n Iraq, I looked over and it was a friggin guy that tried so hard to get out before we deployed and then finally after being in the box for 2 months he was sent home for being alergic to the dirt or some +@@% .Anway my friigin blood was boiling the more i listned (on top of the ringing in my ears )I became enraged for someone to claim such things that i faced the SOB called him out right in front of seemed like 300 ppl I was escorted out of the facility. Thanks for listening and I just stay as far away from ppl as I can............... *100% S/C PTSD* 10% SC TINNITUS 10% RESIDUALS OF TBI MEB INIATED 06 mar 2009 SSG/ GULFWAR 90-92 as a 12B30 SSG/ OIF 3 as a 19D40 SSG/ INTRINSEC ACTION KUWAIT 1993 JUST TRYING TO STAY OUT OF THE HOLES........
