I mailed my CRSC packet to the Army around 2 Dec 08 and by the 19th of December, DFAS had received a copy of the approval as did I.

DFAS made the CRSC input for the monthly entitlement to effect my Jan 09 pay (received deposit 2 Feb 09). At the time of this post, I have not received the two years of CRSC back pay that was approved approximately two months ago. I suspect I will receive it soon.

Not that it matters, but I am retired from the Army for length of service and have a 40 percent SCed disability, 20 percent of which is CRSC eligible.

Your letter should have a percentage cited as "Total Combat Related Disability." Another section of your letter should have the effective date.
You can use that information and that provided at the tables to determine the probable amount you will receive.

With regard to the retroactive entitlement--there is no set time frame for you to receive the money, at least in my opinion. I was told on two occasions by DFAS that I would receive the funds 30-60 after DFAS processed the initial monthly pay. The 60 day upper element of that range has passed by several weeks in my case.

The Army does not pay back pay for CRSC; the DoD pays back pay and handles the initial and subsequent payments of CRSC for all the uniformed services (the applicable service approves the application or disapproves it). The actual processors of the CRSC benefits are contractors, although DFAS is ultimately responsible for the correct payments. The Army has a history of approving/disapproving CRSC claims in a timely manner; after that, it is in the hands of DFAS which is a DoD entity.

I understand your feelings as I am frustrated as well, but your comment, "...since the Army takes forever with anything when they have to pay up" rings a bell with me. I spent all of my 23 years in the Army including my time as a draftee doing the jobs associated with payments.
One of the aspects of JUMPS, initiated circa 1971, was to determine where the fault lay when entitlements were not received. The statistics varies from year-to-year, but the vast majority of non-receipt of entitlements was not the fault of the servicing finance office--most problems of non-receipt were due to non-submittal of necessary documents by your associates in the PAC in your particular battalion.

Again, one of the aspects of JUMPS was to require the submittal of documents on a transmittal letter. Most of the problems revealed that the PAC or unit didn't submit the documents required or submitted them after the cut-off for processing.

This is neither here nor there, but the Army approved my application about 12 days after it was submitted. Good for the Army!

On the other hand, DFAS (a DoD entity) has had my approved application for almost 100 days and still no back pay.

Finally, I sincerely hope you get your funds soon...it is your right and entitlement.

But on a side note I did get approved SSDI in less than 2 months. Which should help with my C&P exams I have next week for my IU claim through the VA.

Congrats on your SSDI approval. With regard to back pay for CRSC, my approval was 112 days ago and I'm still waiting.
I have been receiving the monthly payment since 2 Feb 09 (January '09 entitlement). Hang in there is all I can offer. I can understand the frustrating wait that the initial payees had--there were more than 100,000 cases then. However, it is my understanding that was cleared up late 2008 and things "should" be moving faster now.
