Posts: 2 Feb 14 09 11:04 AM	Tags : None First, this site is great. There is alot of good information from all of you. I am trying to find a sample letter or format for my doctor to use. The VA denied service connection for obvious injuries. To appeal, the DAV rep told me that I needed my family doctor to write a statement that my condition was "more likely than not" or "most likely" due to service, to establish service connection. So, I went to the doc gave him copies of the medical records identifying the injuries. He immediately recognized the service connection for the injuries. He is not familiar with the VA. He asked me to help, since I know my records. He wants to do this right, do a good job, and ensure the VA has everything it needs. I want to help, because if I can make this experience easy then he can be an asset to vets in the area. Is there a sample letter or a format that I can follow to make this easy? Do I follow a format like below? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Date Injury Describe original injury Summarize care over years Describe current limitations/pains/how it affects daily activities Doc statement of "most..." Doc statement of condition and treatability/ongoing problem

Posts: 2 Feb 14 09 4:12 PM	Thanks for the help. I went to www.VAwatchdog.org and found the area KP4VCC mentioned. The article mentions not combining items in a letter and also combining items. Would it be ok to combine left and right hands in one letter? I don't want to clog up things here, so I'll keep it short. It seems as though the person reviewing my initial claim did not even look through my records. So, now I have to prove the connection. Only the very obvious was awarded connection (metal fragment in spine) while other things were denied connection even though the problem/lingering problems still exist (ankles-5 sprains, knees-1 for 10 years, wrist-ruptured tendon w/vein damage, and a few more). I wish I had known of this site when I was being med boarded and first entering the VA system. Again, thanks for all your help.

I don't know if it will help you or not, but you might look at the website I created for researching, organizing and assembling a va claim/appeal. It might give you ideas on how to write your letter(s). As a secretary, when my hubby was given very low percentage for what we submitted, I ended up doing a whole LOT of stuff. The intro on my site states it without exaggeration. He ended up where he should have been in the first place. The VA even acknowledged errors. I truly think sometimes they didn't so much neglect to look as just are so pushed to do so many, they could not find all the info necessary to support the claims. I also felt if we didn't claim it they didn't acknowledge it. Anyway, you might want to look and see if anything can help.
