I have submitted a lot of records from "civilian" doctors.
I have my first appt. with a VA primary doctor next month.
Do I ask him to get the registry exam ?

No.
But I recommend it. Anything that your Primary care doc sends you to, you will have to pay the copay for. The registry exam, and any thing that the registry doc sends you for will be free. and all that will be helpful with your claim. You can call the nearest VA hospital, and ask for the environmental coordinator, they can set you up for the exam, or you can wait until your first visit. when I enrolled, I asked about the exam at the same time, I had the first visit with the PCP within a month, and the registry exam was almost 2 months later. at least at the hospital that I go to, they only do the registry exams every other Tuesday, so the sooner you call, the sooner you can get in. |

Registery exam | #2 | ||

I filled out a form on VOANAPP and have been waiting for the exam since last November. When I did'nt receive a response I called the local VA rep and she
said "Oh NO! Anyway the VOANAPP form was looked at as an initial exam request and she sent me a very easy form to fill out for the exam (Gulf War
Registery). It was easy to fill out unlike the VOANAPP one. I am waiting on the exam but don't know what to expect. What pins and needles will be used?
More poking and prodding? Anal rectal probes? Anyway it has taken me over 17 years to find out that there is such an exam. If they find any "un-diagnosed
illnesses or symptoms will they let me know? Will I then have to request compensation or additional exams for each illness or symptom? I hate going to the VA
except I get to see real warriors in the waiting areas. Feel free to chop me up for waiting this long to figure out there is an exam. Any info will help.
Thanks Mike |

do not feel that you were the only one.
I also waited 17 years before I found out about it. The exam itself involves alot of questions pertaining to your symptoms and exposures, and a general exam. The doctor ordered alot of blood tests and an x-ray. He also set me up for an appointment with a Neurologist, but that's because I have neuropathy. |

Thanks DRAS,
Just trying to figure this stuff out. Were you diagnosed with any illness and did you get compensation? Did you have to file a seperate claim? Just wondering how I will have to proceed with this. |

I recently took the exam and was asked questions about sandfleas, oil smoke, etc. its a general exam..... I told the examiner that all tests she gives me
I'll be fine.....and I was....Its not a tests that checks for Gulf War related illnesses, just a check up imo

I too, waited 18 years for an exam, only because I did not know of such an exam. I did the blood tests and chest x-ray last month. I guess that is all there is
to it. Not sure.

I agree with zep73,
It was more of a check-up. But it is also a chance to document any symptoms or problems. You will have to separately file any claim you think you have for any illnesses or symptoms, whether they are related to the Gulf War or not. That is where the VA has to make decisions, so My claim is still pending |

Thanks everyone,
Your input has been greatly appreciated and helpfull. I am a little anxious about the exam, actually about any exam. I am hoping they will allow me to complete the Mental Health exam on the 26th and schedule the Environmental exam the same day, I just want to get it done all at once if possible. It seems every time I see a doctor and they do blood work or MRI's or Dexa scans they find another illness. Last month they found that I have Osteoporosis from the bone density exam, what will be next? Going to the exams becomes depressing. Thanks again for your helpfull information and advice. Mike |

Hey Mike,
I've been in the same boat for the past six years, everytime I get my mind wrapped around one diagnosis, I'm getting another one. Two things you've got to get used to hearing "we don't know what causes it" "there is no cure" Get educated about it.... |
