Posts: 344 Oct 30 06 3:12 AM	Can anyone point me to any info on what this is, or who gives it out? My son is going to college under Chapter 35; and the local (college) VA rep. has not filed any of his paperwork, because they don't have his payee number. It's supposedly his SSN along with 2 numbers and a letter. I called the regional office, and they said it is generated by Muskogee. How could they generate a number without any paperwork? Guess I'm a little confused... Rich...

Posts: 105 Oct 30 06 1:22 PM	Have you had the school fill out va form 22-1999, Enrollment Certification? Check and see if your son's college has a VA office and they will help take care of all the needed paperwork. In my son's college I use the VA office for all paper work that needs to be filled out.

Posts: 563 Oct 30 06 7:08 PM	RetiredGM, Get out any correspondence you or your son has had from the VA regarding his Chapter 35 Benefits. Look on the upper right hand side of the letter from the VA. You should see a file number which is also the Veteran's Claim Number followed by the letter A. That number is probably also you son's Payee Number. You already have a contact at your son's college. That individual if properly trained should be able to confirm your son's payee number through a computer link up with the VA. To confirm the above, contact your local Regional Office at the toll free number and tell them what the College needs. They should be able to look up your claim number and confirm your son's Payee Number. SC Vet

Chapter 35 bennies are monies used to help dependent of P&T veterans defray the cost of college. With this in mind, dont forget to file for the Pell grant also. Pop
