Not sure I understand the service connection issue with fibromyalgia. Question: If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and did not serve in the Gulf,
is there a problem with it being service connected, or can you still be service connected because you have the diagnosis?
Thanks |

Bro,
Your best bet is to visit with your rheumatologist. Get him/her to give you the nexus you will need, in order to make it service connected. Your conditions will have to have surfaced in service-this will have to be present in your service medical records and continued on to present date, this way, your doctor can state the symptoms were there and just never correctly diagnosed. If you were a Gulf War vet, there are some things that are on the presumptive list, such as fibro, which you could have claimed as service connected. Talk with your doc and see what kind of assistance he/she can give you. Hope this helps. Whoop |

skindle,
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia while in service. When they rated the Fibro they lumped it together with my other rheumatology type disorders (ex,. lumbar disc disease) for a combined 60% SC rating. I was in the service during the Gulf War but I did not serve in the theater of operations. Hope this helps.

Since it is in your record, you can get SC for FM & CFS even without being in the Gulf | #4
skindle wrote: Since it is in your record, you can get SC for FM & CFS even without being in the Gulf. The key for those that was not in the gulf war is you must have signs of it starting while in or up to one year after discharge. The Gulf War veterans have FM/CFS listed as a presumptive disability because it is a lot like GWI. |

Undiagnosed symptoms for 6 years still no diagnosis/Am I a true Gulf war vet? | #5
|
I am getting the strange feeling the VA does not want to diagnose me with FM and CFS since I have been complaining a little girl for the past 6 years. 6 years!!!!!!!! I've been to 4 VAMC on both coast. I have had all sorts of test performed on me. Yet, I have not been given a diagnosis. And because of this the VA will not believe my claim for FM and CFS. I believe their motto is, NO DIAGNOSIS NO CLAIM. But, I also applied for undiagnosed Illness. Anyhow, let me get to my point of this post. Although I have been to the Persian Gulf twice for 6 months each, I was not in the actual war. Nevertheless, I am considered a gulf war vet. So whenever or if I get a diagnosis from the VA how will this factor play into my claim. Will they quaility me as a TRUE gulf war veteran? |

Time Frame for GWI | #6 | ||
|
The time frame for the war is from Aug. 1990 to a date not yet set. I have told the VA that they need to always keep in mind the Veterans that was there after
the fighting. the place was and is a zone of toxic waste.
For the CFS you need the VA to send you to a specalty doc to get it DX. Use the webmd site to help you. VP National Gulf War Resource Center http://www.ngwrc.org Veterans Helping Veterans since 1995 |

tsgt af,
One of the VAs criteria for having Fibro is that you have a certain amount of tender points. I believe its 11 out of 18 if I am not mistaken. I have had my VA doctor check mine and more than one C&P examiner check them. The C&P examiners always found 10. My Va doctor always found moore than 11 every appointment. I was denied my claim all the way to the BVA. I paid out of pocket to see a reuhmatologist that agreed with my doctor and won at the BVA level. It can be a tough battle. Took 4yrs and 1 month. And then they only gave me 10% even after the BVA judge wrote in the file that I have obviously had this for years and his has progressivly been getting worse and worse. I just recieved my letter this week so the Judge hasnt even seen what the rating is yet. He just said Fibro is granted. I hope this helps a little. |

fibro exam at c&p | #10 | ||
|
thank you for that response . it helps when others are in the same boat and able to give advice . i went to see my reguular doctor at the va clinic in alamosa
colorado and he said to stop freaking out that i must wait to see the results of the c&p exam first .
i wanted more tests done as soon as possible and he said wait until the results are in before we can do anything more . the va knows i have diagnoses for cfs and ibs so i and my vs officer submit the paperwork to have those two problems looked at in a c& p exam. they also found out i have degenerative disk disease in my back and neck . and again the va said nothing to me about those problems even though they know about them . when i went to those two c&p exams the doctor read the notes right from the computer that my alamosa VA doctor wrote so they know every thing about my problems . |

Franks wrote:You are not alone, After 6 MRI's, a painful EMG, the neurologist told me I probably have a combination of FM, & CFS, but it is not her place to diagnose it, that has to come from my PCP, all she colud do was to say she could not find any neurological reason's for my problems. My PCP, said that she will not diagnose anyone with CFS, because there is no special treatment for it, and she thinks a lable of CFS, will not do any goood. |

FM and VA docs | #13 | ||
tsgt af wrote:The problem is that the docs need to push on the trigger point. They have to do all of them or until 11 of them are bad. if he only did the two like your post say, your exam was done wrong and you need to file a complamt on that with your VSO. Make sure the tests are done right. this is a good place to get the info you can take to them and your service officer. http://www.fmnetnews.com/basics-symptoms.php VP National Gulf War Resource Center http://www.ngwrc.org Veterans Helping Veterans since 1995 |
