I appilied on line today for SSDI and SSI for the first time. I am at 100% SC but not P&T. I will be filing for P&T this week. I do not want to have to get a lawyer but if I have to I will. A friend of a friend works at the local SSA office and I've got an appointment with her next month. I hope that all goes well. I was just wondering if there is something I can do to speed the process along. Can anyone tell me yea or nay? Tex.

Good luck. Don't hold your breath on SSI because it has a very low income level you have to meet. Being that you rated 100%, you won't qualify as far as I know. I know I didn't when I was 70%. As far as I know, and others may disagree , there really isn't anything you can do to speed the process up. It's pretty much in SS hands. There also is a 5 month waiting period before you draw your first check anyway so just relax and fill out the paperwork they ask you too. Maybe your friend could help speed the process along a little. Just a guess. |

So I applied on-line on Monday and got a call from SSA on Tuesday. I could not talk well on Tuesday because I had seen oral surgery were they cut out five of
my teeth so the lady said she would call back today. I end up spending almost two hours on the phone with them. When I got off the phone I gathered all the
paper work that I needed and have all this stuff to send to them as soon as I receive there paper work that I need to sign. And no I do not qualify for SSI and
I did not apply for it.
So is this the norm? I'm afraid that they will tell me no. |

tex-I am not sure normal and ssdi should ever be used in one sentence,hahaha. Each case is weighed on it's own merits. I have seen people get approved
rather quickly and I myself am in this process over 2 years now. I am 100% i/u, pt. That should not encourage or discourage you just provide them with all your
relevant medical info, medicines and side effects. If your doctors will provide letters supporting that your claim that you cannot maintain any employment that
will help. No reflection on your friend you need to be the best advocate for your case. I hired an attorney after my first rejection and I am at the otr level
now. Good luck and don't give up

I filed online a few months ago here in San Antonio. I am 100% schedular P&T by the VA and was denied SSDI. I just filed for reconsideration and waiting
on their answer. I'm sure it will be denied so then I will hire a lawyer to take the case to the ALJ level. That seems to be the routine. Having a
friend on the inside could be the difference. They may have the formula that the people in Austin need to see to make the award. From what I gather on this
site and others you have to be VERY disabled physically or mentally to get SSDI. I can still get around by myself pretty well. It just takes me longer to do
everything. According to the SSA that is good enough to get any job. Dont be discouraged if you are denied. Just keep plugging away like everyone else...

--- I too filed on line and received a call from the SSDI folks within 3 days. I was told what I needed to bring down to their offices.
--- Had an appointment within the week after filing. Meet with the folks, they copied all my information and said they will be in touch. --- They obtained my medical records from the hospitals and doctors. They reviewed them. --- Less than 90 days later I received my SSDI approval. I am in the Atlanta, GA area. Good luck txhillbilly and hopefully your claim will be as smooth and easy as mine! |
