I went to the Winston Salem, NC office to be tested for Voc Rehab. When the counselor read my scores back, I was shocked. In every category I scored low to mid
20's. The couselor stated that I have up to 48 months of education I qualify for. He said my scores were too low for even community college. My
Veteran's counselor said they probably would'nt send me to school. She also stated that with my not being able to stand, sit, lift among other things I
would probably be rated unemployable. I am rated 70%. 40% for my lower back and 30% for foot conditions. I am scheduled at the end of the month for a MRI to
check for sciatic nerve damage. I guess I don't really have a question. Just looking for some insight, advice or comments.

Do you think you can do school or work?
You can let them deny you voc rehab, file for IU, and get Independent Living Program Services. And you could still use your GI BIll. But what you do is totally up to you. 40% +30% does not equal 70% rating for VA purposes (they calculate it differently), so you probably are rated for other things as well. But if you can't stand or sit, you should file for IU and SSDI. There are not many jobs that don't require constant sitting or standing. The grammar, spelling, and coherence of your post tells me that you are a lot more capable than those tests say you are. I bet if you set your mind to do something, you could do it. So you could decide to write a book or start a business, and you can achieve it. You may have to do a lot of research to get there, but I believe you are capable of doing something- just maybe not a typical job. I would file for SSDI and IU immediately. The worst they can do is turn you down multiple times. Then get a hobby. I like reading about investing and am considering investing in real estate so I am not always dependent on disability. |

Don't ever let anyone tell you what you can't do school wise. I agree with the other poster that your post indicates that you could go to school if
you want to do it. I am a firm believer that a person can do anything he or she truly wants to do.... Good luck!
By the way, anyone can go to a community college even if his or her scores are 1.
